Sims 4 Stuck on Infinite Loading Screen Even After Removing Mods

Hi everyone,

I've been playing The Sims 4 with custom content and mods, but I ran into a problem this afternoon after installing some new CC. After that, the game wouldn't start due to a mod issue. I uninstalled some of the mods, and I was able to launch the game again. However, now it's stuck on the startup loading screen infinitely.

I've tried uninstalling all mods and custom content, but the infinite startup loading screen issue persists. I'm really frustrated and could use some help.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far (none of these worked):

  1. Deleted the Electronic Arts folder in Documents to reset The Sims 4 to a vanilla state.
  2. Uninstalled the game from both EA and Steam (I play on Steam) and then reinstalled it.
  3. Repaired the game in both EA and Steam.

I'm really confused. Even after completely removing all mods and resetting the game to a fresh state, the infinite loading screen issue remains. I'm so sad because I was having so much fun over the past week, and I just bought an expansion pack. 😭

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much

  • @StarClustur  That suggests the problem is the router you normally use.  Can you try powercycling it?  You shouldn't need to open any ports, unless someone has already changed the default configuration.  And yes, it's a bit odd, but at least you have something of an answer and a viable workaround.

  • UPDATE:

Switching to Offline mode on EA helped me get past the infinite startup loading screen. Surprisingly, when I added my mods back into the Electronic Arts folder in Documents, the game ran without any issues! However, I can’t access the in-game gallery while in Offline mode. This makes me wonder if the infinite startup loading screen issue is related to the online/offline mode rather than just the mods themselves. If anyone has any insights, please share them!

But I still want to play the game in online mode If anybody have solution to fix this, please share them!

  • @StarClustur  You're saying that simply putting the EA App in offline mode fixes the issue?  If so, try leaving the App in online mode but disabling the in-game overlay instead.  It's under Settings > Application.

Please also let me know what antivirus you use.  Someone else mentioned the same issue and was using Malwarebytes and Windows Defender, and I'm curious as to whether there's a pattern.

    @puzzlezaddict Thanks for the reply!

Yes, the only way I’ve been able to fix the issue is by playing the game in Offline mode, even with mods installed and my old save files—it’s still playable. I tried disabling the in-game overlay under Settings > Application, as you suggested, but the startup loading screen issue persists.

And I’m only using Windows Defender as my antivirus.

@StarClustur  Just as a test, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account; you'll be asked to answer a series of security questions instead.  You'll be able to sign into the EA App and launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything.

The point is to find out whether this issue is limited to your main account or is more global.

@puzzlezaddict I created a new Microsoft account, made it an Administrator, signed in with my EA account, and played The Sims 4 in Online mode, but the infinite loading screen issue still persists. I’m not sure if I did something wrong.

@StarClustur  You probably didn't do anything wrong.  Another suggestion: try disabling Steam's in-game overlay and any other interactive features you can find.  (I don't own Sims 4 in Steam and have no idea which features are available.)  Separately, if your computer has wifi, please set your phone as a mobile hotspot, using data rather than your home network, and connect to that.  It shouldn't use a lot of data just to try to open Sims 4.  And if this works, it would indicate a problem with your router or ISP rather than your system.

@puzzlezaddict Sorry it took me so long to respond, but IT WORKED! I have to say:

Disabling the Steam in-game overlay didn’t help, but your other suggestion about using a mobile hotspot gave me an idea. My place has two Wi-Fi networks (one on the 2nd floor and one on the 1st floor). I live on the 1st floor and usually use the Wi-Fi there, which caused the infinite loading screen issue. But when I switched to the 2nd floor Wi-Fi ( Use another network ), as you suggested, the loading screen issue was fixed—even in online mode!

What do you think could be causing the problem? this is kinda weird for me.
But anyway Thank you so much for this suggestion!

@puzzlezaddict I wasn’t sure what PowerCycle meant, but I turned the router off and then back on, and surprisingly, it FIXED the issue! Thank you so much for the solution! Can I mark it as the solution? Thanks again! Now I can play The Sims in online mode with my main Wi-Fi! Thanks a lot!

@StarClustur  That's great to hear.  And yes, you should be able to unmark the existing solution using the three dots in the upper-right corner of my previous post, then mark the one you want.
