Sims 4 Won’t Save

I have been having issues with the game for over a week now. One day my game randomly decided to not let me save. It stays on the buffering screen and the only way to get out of it is to end task on task manager. I have a mod manager and my mods are up to date. I also have TwistedMexi’s mod that scans CC/Mods to see if there’s conflicts with game or if the CC/Mod is completely broken. I cleaned out all mods that have been flagged as broken. I have tried saving as “save as” and deleted all previous saves. It worked once and then immediately went back to not saving again. I've cleared my cache, went through my tray, and even reorganized my mods folder. I don't know what else to do. Any advice is welcomed!

  • Just totally redid the steps, got it to save again but it’s back to not saving at all. Why is this happening????

A Mod manager can only tell you if you have the latest version of a mod not if the mod was broken after the latest patch. Please rename your current The Sims 4 folder to something else. Start the game so a new clean folder is created and test the game.

Thanks so much for your response! I did what you said and it allowed me to save once. I tried to do it again to confirm it was fixed and it then acted like it was saving, then proceeded to freeze and wouldn't allow me to exit unless I used my Task Manager and force quit it through there. I am unsure what to do from here. I appreciate your recommendation!

  • Update:

Still not working. I don't know what I am supposed to do. This is the second time I've had this happen, the first time I had to start my game from scratch which wiped years of progress. I don't want to lose another legacy family because EA's patches break the game. It won't save with mods, it won't save without mods, it refuses to save even after clearing my cache, or when I delete old save files. I am at a total loss and am just disappointed.

  • plaguebunny  Does this happen with a new save as well?  Please try for comparison's sake.  And on your main save, try using "save as" with the main household active, and "save as" with a different household active.  This will leave your current save intact under its original name while you (hopefully) create a new copy.

Please also let us know the size of your current save, which you can check in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves.

The new save only saved once and proceeded to not save again. I have already tried the "save as" as stated above. My current save is 11,342KB. Nothing is working. I've spent hundreds of dollars on this game and can't seem to get anyone to help me fix the issue. I've been dealing with this for over a week now and I am just frustrated that the game breaks every month like clockwork. At this point I can't even start a new game because it still refuses to save. I have even reinstalled the game itself. Mind you, this is the fourth attempt at trying to have a legacy family and the game keeps breaking. I don't know what the point of playing is if I can't even have 2 generations of the same family before the game craps out.

  • plaguebunny  Is OneDrive running on your computer?  If so, whether you deliberately use it or not, it could be interfering with Sims 4.  So please try pausing syncing, which you can do by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen, or perhaps hidden in the Tray (^ icon).

Additionally, if you used any content from the Gallery or your own library in the new save, please try again but without doing that.  Create new sims and place them on a blank or default EA-made lot instead.  And continue to test without any mods or custom content present.

If that doesn't help, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account or any email address; you'll be prompted to answer some security questions instead.  You'll be able to launch Sims 4 without reinstalling anything, but your saves and other user data won't be available.  That can be addressed later.
