Sims 4 won't launch, tried everything

Heya! So I've only recently had this issue. Recently as in, I was playing The Sims 4 earlier this morning, and maybe for the last hour and a half, I haven't even been able to get the game to start up. The EA app will go through the motions of launching the game, try to launch it, then the EA app will pop back up and the game will not. I've gone through Steam as well to see if that could kick start it, but Steam shows me as playing a game, not playing, then playing, then not playing again.

I've tried the general solution of moving my Sims 4 folder from the EA documents folder, no luck. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Nuh uh. Repaired the EA app multiple times and restarted. Nope. Tried running the EA app as admin. *sigh*

In all of this, I haven't gotten any error messages or anything. The game just won't launch. If anyone has any other solutions/tips, they would be greatly appreciated!

  • NightcallerZ2k18  Please uninstall Razer Synapse, which is crashing and can sometimes conflict with Sims 4.  If that doesn't help, uninstall any other Razer apps you have.

Try again to launch the game, and if it still doesn't work, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most attempt to play.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • Hello I am also having this issue. I've done everything that you have tried and still no luck.

I'm not sure what the problem could be. Hopefully we can figure it out. if I end up getting my game to launch I will let you know.

I had to 50/50 my mods, I ended up deleting  some “Jenni” makeup cc, a zer0 mod and a lot51 mod to fix it.

  • NightcallerZ2k18  Have you tried restarting your computer?  A few players have reported they can't launch Sims 4 a second time in a row without a restart in between.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

emmilyannem  The above applies to you as well, but please also describe what you see when you try to play.  Let me know whether you've installed through the EA App or Steam as well.

  • Hey, so this also happened to me. When I open my reliability monitor, do I look at the day it has the most "x's" or the day it has the most warnings/events? And also when  I double click nothing happens...

  • courtneyv21  For the Reliability Monitor, you need to look for errors that happened at the time you tried to launch Sims 4 most recently, hopefully today.  And you need to right-click the name of an error, in the list of errors below the chart, not the error icon in the chart or anywhere else.

However, I'd rather see a dxdiag first; the Reliability Monitor is to check for new errors after I've already read a dxdiag or to look for errors when the dxdiag doesn't list them.  To provide one, hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also describe what you see on-screen when you try to launch the game.

  • Here it is! When I try to open it from y desktop, nothing happens, it says it's loading but it's not. When I try to launch it from steam, it says loading but also never loads, I've tried resetting the game, deleting it and redownloading it, but sadly nothing has worked :(

  • courtneyv21  Please uninstall Razer Synapse, which is crashing.  If that doesn't help, uninstall any other Razer apps you have.  It may be fine to reinstall them later, but please test without them present.

If that doesn't help either, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

If you still can't play, I'd like any new Reliability Monitor error reports from after you ran DISM and sfc.

  • Ah, had the same error and used razer synapse. But i also use it on a laptop mentioned in the article (ASUS TUF Gaming A15 model).

For me just reinstall the razer app did the magic, thanks!
