Slow Loading and Performance Issues After Update

Since the update, the game takes much longer to load and feels noticeably heavier. I tested it without any mods. Are freckles and stretch marks using uncompressed textures or something? I don’t understand why the download size is so huge. First of all, please fix the slow loading issue—this is driving me insane.

If the problem is the loading screen after you've selected a household, please try loading a new save, for comparison's sake.  If the new save is fine, try a different household within your main save; you can use Load Game rather than Resume to choose one.

If that doesn't help, or the issue is the first loading screen (before the Main Menu), please try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect hte ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If that doesn't help either, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

My computer crashed with a blue screen while playing The Sims. Since the latest update, the game has become very heavy, loading times are much longer, and my system is overheating. Before the update, I had optimized my system so that both CPU and GPU temperatures stayed under 60°C even during gameplay. However, after the update, the temperatures have increased significantly and performance has dropped. I’d appreciate any help or suggestions. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

  • 08bn8xh0w5vt  The BlueScreens in your dxdiag point to an issue with a driver, but not which one.  Are you getting BSODs while playing Sims 4, or in other contexts?  And if not in Sims 4, are you thinking that your computer shut down due to overheating?

If you think the problem is overheating, limit the in-game framerates to 60 and see whether that helps.  There's a frameratelimit setting in Options.ini which you can edit to your liking.  I'm not saying you can't play at higher fps in general, only that this is a quick and easy test.

  • 08bn8xh0w5vt  The cap in the Options file is an upper limit, but it doesn't override other settings.  So if you've limited fps to 75 in the Nvidia Control Panel, that will still hold even when the value in Options.ini is higher.  If you set a limit of 75 in the Control Panel and 60 in Options.ini, you'll see 60 fps (or lower) in-game.

For the BlueScreens, I can take a look at the crash dumps if you like.  Go here:

    C:\Windows\Minidump

For the most recent two or three files, right-click them and select Copy, then right-click the desktop and select Paste.  From there, you can zip them together, upload the .zip to a third-party filesharing site, and link it here.
