The last two updates have made this game completely unplayable

I am at my breaking point. I have been playing this franchise since 2000, and the stability over the last four years has absolutely cratered. The recent April updates, specifically the 1.123.85.1020 hotfix, have made the game literally unplayable. I cannot travel to a single lot without an immediate crash, and I am consistently hit with "kingdom service" errors. Half the time, the EA app launcher itself just throws a "something went wrong on our end" failure and refuses to boot.

Do not tell me to check my PC specs or my mods folder. I am running a high-end gaming rig with 1.5TB of free space. I have spent the entire weekend doing your Quality Assurance work for you. To prove this is a server-side and engine-level failure, I have done the following:

  • Removed ALL mods and CC and tested on a completely vanilla save. The crashes and launcher failures still happen.
  • Cleared the DirectX shader cache and the EA application cache entirely.
  • Added explicit exclusions for the game executable in Windows Firewall and real-time antivirus scanning.
  • Disabled memory integrity.
  • Completely uninstalled network optimization software (Killer Network) to prevent packet interference.
  • Updated my motherboard BIOS and stabilized my CPU voltages to ensure zero hardware-level faults.
  • Monitored thermal performance: My CPU and GPU temperatures never exceed 65°C. When I attempt to travel, there are no thermal spikes or hardware utilization surges. The game doesn't even try to load the zone; the engine just gives up and fails.

The game still crashes on travel.

I should not have to treat launching a video game like an unpaid IT administration job. Pushing a forced update that fundamentally bricks the executable for high-end systems, with absolutely zero option for consumers to roll back to a working, stable version is unacceptable. This is an anti-consumer practice, and EA needs to take responsibility for putting the game engine in this state.

Acknowledge the engine-level failure, stop blaming user setups, and fix your game.

  • jaclynnchubi  Would you like help fixing the issue, or is this meant to be feedback?  In the latter case, I can move your thread to the Feedback forum.  If you want tech help, please provide a dxdiag.  Please also post a screenshot of the error, and a lastexception file (in the user folder, and a new one generated with no mods or cc present) if the crash or error triggers one.

Please also keep in mind that trying to start the game soon after a crash often causes the "failed to launch game" error even when there's no reason Sims 4 shouldn't be able to start.  Either restart your computer, or close the EA App and kill the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager, after each crash and before you try to play again.

This is a player-help-player forum, as in, you're not going to see EA employees doing tech support here.
