The Sims 4 fails to launch when Custom Content is present in Mods folder

Hello,

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with The Sims 4 related to custom content (CC), and I would appreciate your assistance.

The game itself appears to be installed correctly and works under specific conditions, but fails to launch when custom content is introduced.

Issue description:

  • When I launch The Sims 4 through the EA App with an empty Mods folder, the game starts normally without any issues.
  • However, when I copy my existing custom content (CC) back into the Mods folder, the game no longer launches at all.
  • The EA App behaves as if the game is starting (briefly minimizing), but after a few seconds it returns to the EA App, and the game never opens.
  • No error message or crash report appears.

Troubleshooting steps already taken:

  1. Repaired the game via the EA App
  2. Fully removed the Mods folder and confirmed the game launches correctly without CC
  3. Reintroduced my CC files back into the Mods folder (issue immediately returns)
  4. Cleared cache files for both The Sims 4 and EA App (including relevant temp/cache directories)
  5. Restarted the system after each major step
  6. Ensured the Mods folder structure is correct (Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods)
  7. Verified that custom content is enabled in-game (Script Mods and CC toggled on)
  8. Launched the EA App and the game as Administrator

Additional observations:

  • This issue started recently; previously, the same CC worked without problems
  • The problem occurs consistently every time CC is present, regardless of how many files are added
  • Even adding a small portion of CC (not the full collection) can trigger the issue
  • Removing CC immediately restores normal game launch behavior
  • No visible error codes, logs, or warnings are provided by the EA App

Possible cause (based on observation):
It seems likely that one or more CC files may be outdated or incompatible with the current version of the game, or there may be a conflict within the Mods folder. However, since the game fails to launch entirely (rather than showing a mod conflict message), I’m unsure how to identify the exact cause.

Could you please advise on:

  • How to identify which CC file(s) might be causing the issue?
  • Whether there are known compatibility issues with recent updates affecting CC?
  • Any logs or diagnostic tools I can check to pinpoint the problem?
  • Additional steps I can take to resolve this without manually testing each file one by one?

I would really appreciate any guidance or recommendations.

Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,
Anne
