the sims 4 simply not working anymore

hi, im writing this because i've been having troubles with the sims 4 for one or two months now and i feel like i've tried everything to find a solution, sorry if this ends up being very long.

I used to play with a lot of mods and cc (still have them on a backup but they're completely gone from my game). 2 months ago, my game started crashing for absolutely no reason. no message, nothing, just a crash after playing like 2 minutes in live mode. first i changed my gpu and other components in my computer because it was old, and i had problems on other games. changing these fixed my problems for most of my games but nothing changed for the sims 4. i totally abandoned the game and stopped playing.

a week ago, i decided to try to fix my game for good because ive been playing for 10 years and its kind of my comfort game. i looked up many things, i repaired and reinstalled the game multiple times, reinstalled EA app, removed my saves and trays files (have them in backup on another driver as well), removed mods to try testing the game as "new", and in vanilla mode. ive cleared ea app's cache, updated my nvidia drivers multiple times, i feel like ive tried everything.

I asked multiple times for support on the EA forum (french side) and still nothing worked. I even tried using chatgpt (which was truly my last resort because i genuinely despise ai ), it helped me following multiple steps, trying to solve different things which could have been the cause. with its help, i tried changing the graphiccards file, because i sometimes had the popup "graphic card not recognized when opening the game", so i added my graphic card, didnt work, i erased my changes. i tried changing the option and config files to again fix the card problem, didnt work either, under my gpu its written found : 0 supported : 1 (idk what it means).

then, ive updated directx, visual c++, checked if my gpu was overheating, it was not, scanned my pc's memory to see if anything was corrupted, not the case either, ran multiple dxdiags, no problems detected. i deactivated ea background service, made things worse so i changed it again to automatic (used to be manual, idk if it changed anything). and finally i gave chat gpt my last exception file : i have a posture and object info error. i dont know where this comes from and have no idea how to fix it.

in the end, chat gpt (i wont rely on what it says so i prefer to ask for help here), said that my GPU (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070) is too recent and is not recognized by ea and the sims 4, that i should either run the game without the ea app (which i cant, the game automatically runs with it even if i launch it from the bin folder, and i dont want to since i want to have access to the gallery), or that i should just wait for an update.

i really dont know what to do, seems strange that all of this would be caused by my gpu being too recent ? idk. also, i dont know if it could be remains of old mods but i dont think so since i cleaned my files multiple times. i also used to play with gshade (which obviously was not installed during all of this), i recently learned about the malware thing which i had completely forgotten about, idk if that could have corrupted anything. i'm genuinely lost, i want to be able to play again without crashing in live mode after like 5 mins. if anyone has an idea of whats going on, id be so grateful.

thank you in advance, im sorry this is is so long, i hope its still readable !!

  • Are you have a problem like "Failed to Launch Game" , too?

I am sure you are no alone, because I can't play this game from Aug.  I have a issue about "Failed to Launch Game".

I try to play this game in blank computer, it doesn't work either. I also try anything they said. No useful, I pretty sure the problems not from us, is them,  they fxxk up this game from the inside whatever the code it is. I want to give up this game like you, but I have a lot of feeling in this game. I do wanna play it again. Hopefully they will fix this asap. But I think they having a Christmases holiday moon now, don't give a **bleep** to us.😊

i sometimes have this popping up too, but most of the time the game just crashes and i don’t even have any error message, its very tiring and ig we just have to abandon the game until it’s fixed lol (idek if it’ll ever be)

I have NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 but I've also been experiencing constant crashing. The crashing started for me when I got Enchanted by Nature but the game became unplayable after the Adventure Awaits update. I have been troubleshooting this for weeks and nothing has worked. I do have my own thread, but I wanted to add to this one in case we have a similar issue.

  • reshiraem  Please attach your most recent dxdiag to a reply here.

An unrecognized graphics card should cause no issues on its own.  Sometimes the message can mean there's a problem with the GPU or its driver, but if you're seeing the RTX 5070 in the Config file, that's unlikely.  The Found: 0, Supported: 1 part means the GPU's device ID isn't in the database (the ID isn't found) but that the game is told to consider the card supported when choosing default graphics settings.

Mine is doing exactly the same. When I’m in builds mode it freezes then saying programme not responding, so I try in live mode and then it freezes all together and just goes off it says device ran into problem or even worse it some times just goes off without warning. It’s unplayable the amount of money we have all paid for the packs and nothing ever seems to work.  I even took out all my cc and I was still having lag and crashing issues

  • The exact same thing has been happening to me around the same time! I hope we get it fixed soon!

  • reshiraem  Your dxdiag lists two crashes of the graphics driver and various types of BSOD.  I can't see what motherboard you have, but the place I'd start is with updating the BIOS if there's a newer version available.  Your current version is 1641.  Google "[board model] drivers" and find the Asus support page, and check for chipset driver updates while you're there.

For the graphics driver issue, please do a clean uninstall and reinstall, as described here:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

I would try an older driver, either version 576.88 or 577.00, rather than the newest one.  Nvidia drivers have had some issues over the past few months, but those two versions appeared to be stable.  You can find older versions here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

Choose Game Ready Driver as the Download Type to go back far enough.

If none of this helps, let the game crash again, then look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Click Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.
