Unclickable overlay on Sims 4 startup

I started up my game this morning after playing fine with no issues last night. There seems to be an overlay on the starting screen that I can't get out of. I can't click anywhere and none of the but...

    Resolved by resetting game to factory settings! 

    Made backup of Sims 4 folder, restarted game to create new Sims 4 folder, then copied my save files, tray and mods folder back, restarted the game and can now load back into my game as before! 🤩

For me the unclickable overlay happened every time I clicked out of mods pop up at startup, so what worked for me was to take out mods, then back in the now un-modded game unselect "show at startup" pop up (options menu-game options-other-view custom content), and then put mods back in.
