whostolemyapples​  If you can launch the game at all, there's a Bin folder somewhere, I mean it absolutely has to exist.  So maybe you're looking at a partial duplicate install.

The first problem sounds like this:

The second one is somewhat common and has a number of causes.  The next question is whether you can load a different, previously-unplayed household within the same save.  Click Load Game rather than Resume and choose that other household; you don't need to save your progress.
