Here is what it comes down to - you pay for convenience. You wanted an item that required special currency (snakes, coins, hearts, etc) and because you thought the event was ending on a certain day I might as well pay donuts to acquire the item. Hell, I have thought about it many time myself - oh to the Sleepy Motel, I wish I could have thee. The thing is you can get it next year, but who wants to wait until then. Enter paying for the item with donuts.
Also, I know the argument - "Well, it may not be available next year". Here is my response - bravo to the people who worked hard to received the items this year, so sad to those who did not work hard enough to get them, and too bad for those who paid for status symbols because they could not stand NOT having them.
Regardless of communication of when the event would end or the short amount of time the event runs for, you wanted it and you wanted it now and the way for you to get it is paying for it (donuts, real money, etc.). I hope that you can get your donuts back, but I am not going to feel sympathy for someone who made a CHOICE to hurry up rather than wait until next time.
But how do you know you will get it next year? Heck if this is going to be the same content next year, ill quit now, the argument is how they have deceived this fellow player,as I could imagine how peed off ill be because I brought it because I was under the impression this is the date. That to me is wrong, I play many similar apps which are far far less deceiving in getting you to use the premium currency, it's doing nothing to get me to purchase anything, that's for sure, all in all it has to stick to dates and stop "baiting" new players and keep the people, who have supported this app since day one, keep going and looked after. That's just my opinion, but your totally right they did technically use them at the own free will- While it is obviously the choice of the consumer to spend or not to spend there is an ethical responsibility of the service provider to make sure offers are fair to the consumer. In this case I waited until what I assumed was the last opportunity to purchase a building/character combo at a reduced rate only to subsequently discover the promotion was extended and I'd spent 80 Donuts on a building I could of gotten for free. The primary reason for doing this was the assumption if I didn't spend "Now" I wouldn't have the opportunity again.
In any case I've requested a Donut refund from EA, we'll see what they respond and I'll post here in due course. Captapjt wrote:

Absolutely, well done I'd do the same, as it has technically "deceived" you into a purchase you really didn't want to purchase, due to late notification of the extension of WD, there for you would have got your building anyway and saved the 80 donuts aswell just like you mentioned. Extortion basically- I totally agree with you emmcee. The only reason I used the 45 donuts was because I was within a couple of hours before what I thought was the end of WD. I lacked 450 snakes from getting the motel, which in my opinion, is the best prize for the entire WD event. It wasn't for a "status quo", as I could care less about what anyone thinks of my Springfield. I'm not in a competition for "Best Springfield." I would've never used those donuts had I've been aware of an extension.
They had a chance to inform people of an extension a day or so in advance and they chose not to. It might have been a courteous extension, a last minute decision on their part or a money grab. Who knows, who cares. You have a right to send them an email if you choose to regarding that issue.
I hope it works out for you, Captapjt. It did for me and I'm pleased with them acknowledging the issue. Even with bad grammar, lol. mdawny wrote:

Totally, more people need to do this, in order for ea to "permenatly" fix this extortion, instead of a lazy remark from fellow users hoping it will go away itself, this is what they want. How hard is it for a little communication to advise us of the extension, that's what makes me think it was premeditated.emmcee1 wrote:

Asking donuts back because you thought that the even would end on the 9th is not a valid reason in my opinion... Did EA tricked you on spending donuts? Yeap! Did they force you to spend them? Nope! Refunds in here should be only taken for a children's misuse, donut loss glitches and real money characters or decorations glitches aka the Texan or even for the harp incident....
The more and more I read about it, it's starting me to realise and start to dislike ea's shady approach, same as the donuts in the present boxes when you level up. It basically states chance to win 1-3 donuts and 50g to select again. Now it doesn't state you will have to gamble what you have to receive another chance ASWEL as 50g. What is this? The corleone family running a smart phone app syndicate?

You're not gambling at all on the second chance. You're always guaranteed something better. If you start with two donuts and get one on your second try you are given two. If you get three on your second try you are given three. You are always given the highest amount you choose.- I've already posted this. But people need to understand. Since EA is so bad at notifications, why did they put out this notification.

As of right now, there has still been NO notification of an extension.
But at Christmas, when speeding up prizes with donuts wasn't a part of the game.

The extension was a courtesy as someone here has said. The fact that they didn't let us know; was a moneymaking ploy. sherryt07 wrote:

This isn't a defense for EA, but it seems like they fully intended to end the event last week. Previously they had announced that they would be extending events and this time they did not. It makes me wonder if they ran into issues removing the code for whacking day and needed more time to figure out the bugs. You can say they were just being greedy, but that doesn't seem like a logical step to intentionally burn your paying customers on a free game. Then again it is the highest grossing app so maybe they figure they would still make money even if they lost a few players.- Then explain why no notification of an extension, even a late one. But I bet we get another "Last Chance" in a day or so.
And how hard is it really to post to Facebook. Billions of people do it every day. :? sherryt07 wrote:

That's why I said it isn't a defense. Even with how late in the day it got pushed out it seemed like they were trying to delay things to get it working. I still think they should have said something even if it was on Thursday if nothing else.
