Had the same problem. I moved all my plants from the planter box to the smaller pot that I always used for just my trees. Been playing with them for a week now and water all works fine if they are in the smaller pots. Still have not tried tend garden interaction though. I just use the water all and she goes and waters everything. Not sure if this will work for everyone but it has worked for me. I play a vanilla game and the only cheat I use is Motherlode. I do think you have to transplant all your plants to the smaller pots though. I don't think it works if you have any of the planter boxes.
