I just downloaded the recent update earlier in the day 4/29/25, which I presumed automatically turned off mods though I do play with a few script mods like UI cheats, MCCC, BBB and a UI color mod.

Crashes on Mainmenu

I never update my game right away after an update - I typically wait at least a week. So I've been playing my game offline for days, but today I tried to play offline and I suddenly got the good old EC:204 Error - the one where it won't let you access your locally loaded and owned game saying that it can't "verify your license" and you need to go online. That is an entirely different issue but it essentially forced me to update my game if I wanted to play. So after I updated, the game would start to load and then crash before it got to the Main Menu screen. So I came on here, read through the comments and first tried going into the Options file and changing the text as recommended, but that didn't work for me. The game still crashed. So below is exactly what I did next and it worked. (This is essentially what another player said they successfully did, but I just added a couple of steps.)
- I took the Saves folder out of my Sims 4 folder in Documents and put it on my desktop
- I deleted the "Scratch" sub folder from within my Saves folder
- I then made a copy of my Saves folder and also put that on my desktop in case things went south
- Next, I loaded the game and successfully got to the main menu without the game crashing
- I didn't make a new save or anything - I just re-enabled CC and Mods from the settings available right from the main menu screen - making sure to click the "Apply Changes" button
- I exited and closed the game as well as the EA App
- I put my original Saves Folder back in my Sims 4 folder (keeping the copy of the folder I made on my desktop as a backup)
- I opened the EA App, launched the game and successfully got to the Main Menu screen with all of my Saves intact
- I opened my latest save, loaded the household I last played, and have played for a few minutes with no issues
I hope this helps some folks.

So your mods were still disabled although you changed the settings in the options ?

Yes. I followed your instructions and made the recommended change, but the game still crashed after. When I went into the settings after first getting back into the Main Menu screen, the "Enable Custom Content and Mods" box was unchecked and the "Script Mods Allowed" box was checked, but grayed out - until I checked the first box.

Hm, weird. Maybe something triggered the game to disable them right away again. Guess I'll need to adjust the instructions.
