I just downloaded the recent update earlier in the day 4/29/25, which I presumed automatically turned off mods though I do play with a few script mods like UI cheats, MCCC, BBB and a UI color mod.

Crashes on Mainmenu

Oop, I think I bypassed the issue somehow. Long story short: I turned on the mods option back on in the game.
For the long version, this is what I did: I removed my save from the folder, started a new game, turned on the Mods, exited the game, put my original save back into the folder but did not delete the new one that was created, opened the game again (it worked, didn't crash this time), clicked on Load Game and selected my original one and all good.
Because my game crashed again when I was testing a new game but with a household from my library (which was modded) and crashed again, I surmised it had something to do with Mods being turned off after the update so I tried what I described above and it worked. Let's see how it fairs but so far so good.

Thank you so much for this! This resolved the issue for me as well. My sims "legacy file" was started when The Sims 4 first launched in 2014, I've been playing it ever since (over a decade)! Over 200+ households and multiple generations in my legacy family plus many, many other households and stories.... starting over at this point was not an option, and I was in a total panic when this issue started occurring since the latest update. Your workaround saved me and I'm so very grateful! 😊
