I just downloaded the recent update earlier in the day 4/29/25, which I presumed automatically turned off mods though I do play with a few script mods like UI cheats, MCCC, BBB and a UI color mod.

Ideas
Did some further testing and was able to narrow it down to mermaids and tattoos. I can duplicate this on a vanilla game too.
Repro steps
- Create a new save
- Create a new mermaid
- Give your Sim any tattoo that's not base game (from cc or a pack)
- Save and close the game
- Disable the pack of the tattoo you added to your Sim or remove the cc tattoo.
- Start the game
- Watch the game crash on startup
