This happens to me all of the time. The game just freezes, and I can't save. I have to use the Task Manager to close the game, reload and replay everything I had done since my last save. I'm a frequent saver so it hasn't been too bad, but, the Alien abductions are happening way too frequenly. Seems like almost every night. I didn't have either of the files mentioned in the previous posts but I do play with a lot of mods. If I knew which one was causing it, I could remove it, but I'm not going to reinstall and go that route, because afterwards, I would just move all the mods right back in.
You may have already figured this out, but just go to your mods folder and in the search bar, enter: *alien and it will pull up any file with alien in the name. My issue wasn't either of the files above, but an alien eye from PralineSims. Hope that helps.
