I'm not sure how they could retroactively improve the custom images, those changes they made permanently reduced the saved resolution of all in-game paint by reference and photos in the save files, there's no reversing that. Maybe its new ones that you've taken that look better?
I'd confirm but I'm keeping my game at an older version while we wait, again, for EA's amateur devs to fix their problems with mod support from yesterday's trainwreck of a patch.
I will test this tonight. But maybe our photos are saved in our computers (with the original resolution) and after the patch the game loads a blurred version...for whatever reason? Your comment also makes sense, by the way...and I have feared that since the patch that broke everything. But trying to stay positive here.

I can save you the trouble - they aren't saved anywhere but inside the individual save files. That was the main reason the developers chose to nerf the resolution is when they moved them from a central database to copies in each individual save then some people's save files folder got pretty big and they whined about it. I know this because I read the developer's explanation for why they did this and I've also dug into the save files before and after that change to see the differences.
I'm waiting for the dust to settle with yesterday's trainwreck patch and a few mods to update then I'll see if new photos are saving at higher resolution again, but the old ones are permanently low-res trash now unless you have a very very old save from early 2025 and want to dig them out from it.

I logged in after updating the patch, but the problem with the photo remained.
