My sims is stuck on a loading screen when I try to access my family. I have lots of memory, deleted mods and emptied cache and checked saves - but it still is stuck on the loading screen. When the game did finally load, it refused to save in game and if I travel anywhere I'm still stuck on a loading screen.
Also, my game crashed for the first time this week after the update.

Endless/Long loading screens can have a lot of causes.

Try to narrow down if the family or the lot is the issue and if you have any LastException files, post those.
