Neighboring Houses show as Default/Empty

Issue

When loading into a lot, all the neighboring houses show either as an empty lot or show the default lot that comes with the game.

Loading into the lot shows the correct lot. Thumbnails on the map are also correct.

There is no endless loading.

Info

It's unclear what's happening here but I tested this on a save and found that it was only an issue for certain families. Loading the same lot with a different family showed the houses fine.

It looks like a rending issue where the game doesn't find the correct data and shows either an empty lot (if the lot comes empty on a new game) or with the house that was originally on that lot.

At this point I do not know if this is an early sign of save game corruption.

Workaround

In the save I tested, I was able to fix the issue by simply moving the affected families out and back in.

Info to provide

Please provide the following information when posting

  • What is your platform ?
  • Are you using mods/cc ?
  • Does the above workaround help you and can you confirm that it doesn't happen for all families ?

First time posting but after playing since release day, always with minimal mods and cc from an under performing to now an over-spec gaming laptop and i am having this issue for the first time after building a save file from scratch. It starts off in one world and then travelling to other worlds spreads this bug. I have a copy of the save before this bug appeared and using this to test means leads to the bug coming back again. I have the memory booster enabled but apparently this realistically does not impact a game engine issue such as this and any fix from it will always be temporary until it is triggered again.

I have not tried removal of For Rent yet or removal of unused lots to combat a potential object limit. Does anyone have experience of this working long term? I am quite a casual player but typically play with multiple households across multiple worlds with several legacy families.

Spending weeks building a save for this to happen as soon as I start playing households is very disheartening and quite abysmal on EA / Developers part to leave this ongoing issue regardless of who and what type of game players it affects - especially if they plan to run the sims 4 for several more years.

Any suggestions are welcome as my saves (again, even on my previous underperforming laptop) have never had issues like this before? I was never really impacted by hanging/infinite loading screens or corrupted files before.

for more context, the live mode of the lot I load into will show the correct lot, world view shows the lots placed as I have placed them - it is only surrounding lots that show as empty/default/whatever they are when the game is fresh. I can travel to a lot and it show correctly but again, surrounding lots do not. This started in Willow Creek/Oasis Springs and then radiated into Newcrest, Magnolia Promenade, Windenburg and so on. Repairing the game obviously does not fix this (shock horror, I’m not sure that function fixes anything). It’s seemingly purely and aesthetics issue which realistically, should be fixed for a game that prides itself on immersion as aesthetics and set dressing are a big part of immersion in a simulation game.

again, any recommendations welcome to maintain a save file to some degree without this happening?

Try (on a copy of your save) deleting some lots you don't absolutely love. I did that with 24 lots all over my save and also removed some City living apartment interior, but mostly lots in neighbourhoods I don't play often, so that those missing lots are not everywhere and don't break immersion in areas I love too much. That has returned the rest of my world back to being visible again. I just can't build new lots anymore without deleting another one in turn for it. I imagine it's a max limit of lots / item limit that the dev team has overstepped with the amount of worlds we have.

I really hope the dev team is still fixing this before fully departing from Sims 4 and not leaving us behind with this issue..

Upvoting on this issue. To add: I play on PC with mods. I have tried this vanilla. When downloading lots off the gallery (community lots, homes, rentals), they will place correctly and reflect correctly on the map. However, at some point when loading, the save will revert back to its original lot. When I take my sim to visit the lot, it disappears. I believe this is due to too many rentals placed within a save. Sometimes reverting the Save File to an earlier save date fixes the solution, but I have had it happen in multiple save files with and without mods.

i don't have any rentals in my game except for the two default ones in Tomarang because i just wanted to see if it still happens-- and it does. smh. i thought it was from having too many as well.

Uploading 2 save files. As soon as I added an additional Rental lot and the save corrupted. I can not access the rentals in San Sequoia (Celebration way - Multi unit lot and rentals start on floor to, the navigate icon to reach the second and third floor disappeared) and the additional lot I added was on Robles in SQ (after adding this lot it caused corruption) The saves are minute apart with no additional action taken.

Yes to mods - mostly gameplay very little CC outside of CAS. Currently using an apple M1 macbook pro. Save corruption also happened on PC so platform IMO is unrelated. This is happening to multiple lots not a single family, did not try the work around because of this.

    Save 3 = Ok. Save 4 = Corrupted

Revisiting this once again, since my original comment a few weeks ago - i did a few things.

    • removed unused rentals and replaced rentals that could be considered over decorated.
    • cleared lots / apartments of furniture and objects if not in use in my file.
    • regularly clearing game cache and backing up the save (at least once a week).

Since, my game has not repeated this issue. HOWEVER, i think it may stem from travelling between lots. That is when i would notice it would appear and i am yet to travel from home lots to test this. Playing in just home lots across several families and several worlds has been fine, but i am wary of travelling. I know there are recommendations out there to not travel for 10/15 minutes of real world time in games once loaded into a lot - but as per my original frustrations, a game of this scale (and price point!) should not have such limitations.

I wish they would pick this issue up and look into it earnestly as i see new comments from people still having this issue.

i think i may test the travelling today and update again. I hope it doesn’t break my save (again) but i will be loading up and backing the save up straight away.

-side note- it is strange to see that people who play with heavy alpha cc and mods like t.o.o.l and heavy world edits not have ever reported these issues. maybe it’s luck of the draw but as a maxis match cc (mix in terms of skin detail) and light script mod usage, it’s strange having such issues.
