That's so annoying as I was going to play my saves again because I thought they fixed it. Where are your photos located? Are they displayed, in the household inventory? I'm trying to think about everything that could cause it. Ik you said you didn't have any mods installed, but they didn't disable them for us this time just incase that's it.
Yes, I've tested it without mods and still the bug persists. And the photos displayed on the walls turn black. (EDIT: after more thorough play testing, photos and paintings-by-reference kept in inventory/ household inventory DONT turn black! It's once they are put into the world!) I had my sim travel to different houses just to see if their photos are affected, and sure enough! They are all blacked out. I'm really confused why my game is getting this bug? And again, it's across all saves that I save after this update.
And why do I have that too?
I've been wondering why it seems to just be us, too 😢 Do your paintings turn white? That's another thing I've discovered unfortunately. (Just the paint by reference paintings turn white.)
Hmm... I don't think a repair would help, but that really sucks. and so weird that I can't recreate it.
and it being all photos makes it tricky.
Before this update, pictures taken with the digital cameras would be the ones to turn black (not bc of the camera specifically) and the phone pictures would be good, even if filters were used.
But since it's all photos it hard to know why this is happening. I've seen in another report that Windows 11 got updated, so there could be a chance that Windows is maybe blocking files. Perhaps the file that could be keeping the photo data? I feel dumb saying that bc I don't really know how it works.
I believe it's called "Smart App Blocker" and you have to turn it off, but that's if you have Win 11.
I saw something about the windows 11 update too, and it doesn't hurt to try! I've already tried repairing the game but that did nothing. I've been working on this for what feels like forever now and from what I gathered is: all photos turn black and so do paintings-by-reference. But one super confusing thing, is sometimes the photos will turn black across a few households and not another. But THEN, that one household that didn't have its photos turn black this time have turned black when I discovered this whole mess. It's a conundrum! I really don't know what's wrong or how to fix it... All I know is I can't keep any saves after this update today. 😭
I'm sooooo sorry, you can't recover any of them?
I know this isn't helpful now, but in the future you can backup yours saves (anytime, especially right before an update) on Google Drive, a USB Drive, or you can just make a new folder on your desktop, copy the files and paste it there.
I don't have windows 11. PROBLEM started for me after the fix update. I RARELY saw this issue before. NOW ALL are bad.
It's the same for me! The photos were fine in the inventory, I placed them on walls and they were still fine for a little bit, then I went to another lot and now they're all black again...
