I saw something about the windows 11 update too, and it doesn't hurt to try! I've already tried repairing the game but that did nothing. I've been working on this for what feels like forever now and from what I gathered is: all photos turn black and so do paintings-by-reference. But one super confusing thing, is sometimes the photos will turn black across a few households and not another. But THEN, that one household that didn't have its photos turn black this time have turned black when I discovered this whole mess. It's a conundrum! I really don't know what's wrong or how to fix it... All I know is I can't keep any saves after this update today. 😭
I'm sooooo sorry, you can't recover any of them?
I know this isn't helpful now, but in the future you can backup yours saves (anytime, especially right before an update) on Google Drive, a USB Drive, or you can just make a new folder on your desktop, copy the files and paste it there.

I actually have so many backup saves in my pc folders so it's all good there thank goodness. And I have my lots saved to my gallery with all of the photos and paintings in tact, and my last safe save from last night has everything in order. No bugs, no black images. It's only after I save today after the update that everything turns into a dumpster fire with the photos/ paintings-by-reference. Also I should say, after more thorough play testing the photos and paintings only turn black when placed in the world. They seem to be fine in my sims inventory/ household inventory!! If I decided to replace all the blacked out photos with the ones saved from my gallery, that would be HUNDREDS to replace, and I'm not even sure if it would be worth the trouble. I can't imaging trying to replace them all then have them all turn black again. Same thing with the paintings :( I'll keep trying, I'll even try the Windows 11 thing to see if it helps! ;-;

Sorry to add, but before the update when testing, photos that turned black in my save were also black on the gallery. I don't want you to get your hopes up that, that will work.
Also, before the update I also had photos look fine in the inventory, but truly it was black. I really hope it's windows. If I checked correctly, mine is off.

Oh wow really? That's so strange!! You know, I haven't had this problem in my game with the blacked out images in a very long time. And it was a few years ago I believe, and it only corrupted one of my saves. (In that same save, my custom painted pets turned black too.) The fact that it's now happening after trying a new save from any of my current saves is what's making me think this is a larger more technical issue with the recent patch. Maybe they'll tweak something and put out a new update with all bug fixes from today.... At least that's what I'm desperately hoping for!!

Yeah, idk if you checked the Window app blocker thingy yet, but assuming it’s blocking that file, they should come back unless the update went wrong somehow

I did check and it's actually off! Oh I just hope it's the update and maybe they can fix it. Until that happens, I certainly won't be making any new saves 😢

I’m sorry :( hopefully they will fix it soon considering that’s what they were trying to fix with this patch

I just tested it with DX11 and the memory boost (early access). It doesn't even work. Why is the bug so much worse for me than in the previous patch? The “Save as...” function and then saving again worked well with the pervious patch.
