I can confirm it works! My save files are slightly smaller than the originals I pulled the pics from, but all of my sim households have all of their photos and paintings back. I am unsure if this would prevent the issue from occuring again, but can test later this week. The only tedious thing would be exporting pics if you take a lot of them, but at least this way you don't lose progress game-wise.
