crinrict I have only been hit by black in-game photos a few times so far. I have made a habit of saving my game often under a new title, i.e. always after my Sim takes photos. I have saved these on walls in my library. After reading how hundreds of players have been hit by this bug after the latest update, I have refrained from updating my game just to be on the safe side. I am waiting for the February update to have a solution.
EA_Solaire explains that there is a connection with an automatic optimization of the game. What particularly bothers me about this explanation is the following:
In Businesses and Hobbies, we introduced optimizations to reduce save size by removing custom images that are no longer in use. While this helped performance and storage, it also introduced new edge cases. In some situations, images that were still being used were mistakenly removed. When that happens, the game no longer has the data needed to display the picture, resulting in a black image.
I play on a semi-gamer computer and have more than a TB of free space on my hard drive. I have no problems saving fairly large saves. I am therefore speculating whether this optimization happens automatically regardless of the hard drive space available? Is there any connection or is it just a matter of random chance?
