I first noticed falling rain and snow visuals around the December holidays. No mods nor CC and no effects, just the visual of precipitation occurring. A few weeks ago, I read that this glitch was addressed yet still present in my game.
Earlier today I logged in to my legacy save that I played with no new issues last night. Off-grid in Brindleton Bay in the summer with an off-grid stove and refrigerator located on the ground floor of a modest two-storey cabin. I play that lot in live mode for about ten minutes-- chooks and plants needed tending, before saving then entering build mode. I changed my mind after about twenty minutes and returned to live mode before saving as a new save and quitting for lunch. Over an hour later I log back in to my last save before entering build mode when everything was still mostly working and suddenly had to deal with a broken off-grid stove and refrigerator. I went back and forth fixing each two or three times before I realized something was wrong. Clicking on the just-fixed refrigerator threw a greyed out "use" button with the message that, "electronics don't work in the rain." And while I thought either my dog is not as housebroken as advertised or my icebox fridge had sprung a leak, but it was puddles from rain.
After testing other households--even ones I have never touched, in the world it was apparent roofs no longer held back the elements. Nor did ceilings as ground floors were the most impacted with puddles and broken electronics while upper stories only suffered the visual glitch of falling precipitation. It is hit-or-miss on if sims experience the weather effects; few got wet but all experienced temperature extremes as if out of doors. It is hard to say if sims opening brollies indoors is part of it as that has been its own glitch for years. I then switched to the previous save for my legacy from last week and it now has indoor weather on all lots. I went through several more, older saves as well as my two build saves, and it appears all my saves are now corrupted by weather in buildings. In the end I started up a fresh game and it rained indoors.
This is game-breaking. Seasons is that must-have expansion for me so without the weather effects there is just the annoyance of garden plants only growing part of the year.
Side note: why do any off-grid appliances fail to work in the rain? I can accept a stove not working but electric refrigerators function in rain so long as the electrical connection is watertight.
