Sims won't use nearest furniture while eating/reading

My sims won't use the nearest couch to read their books, and will instead trek halfway across the house.

While looking this up I found an old post with a comment saying it's not a bug because they're supposed to go looking for the most comfortable seat. No. No. Absolutely not. When my sim is going down two flights of stairs to read a book outside in the rain instead of using the perfectly good couch right next to the bookshelf, it's a bug.

Please implement something that stops this. They're not even keeping to the same room.

  • Are there any sims in the spots your sim routes to? I know there's some kind of code logic where a sim picks not the most comfy seat, but a seat that's surrounded by other sims, unless your sim is alone to which then you can just ignore me :D

I find sims will flock together. For example, vampires go out in the sun to eat because their sister is at the table cross stitching. It's the worst.

  • I've seen people say this is older, but at least since Discover University, they will seek out other sims, even if said other sim is asleep, to go do their homework/read a book by.  I kinda get it for homework, but for reading I find it immersion breaking.  I don't know about you or the Sims team, but when I want to read a book, I generally *don't* want people around trying to make conversation.

I don't remember about previous occurrences, but the one that prompted this post there was definitely no one else there, as I was only playtesting the house and the only other sim was standing around doing nothing at the front door.

My sims walk to the pool to sit on the edge... it's cute and all, but there's a perfectly good sofa not two yards away! The edge of a bed someone was sleeping in... the food box... all aparently more comfortable than that couch! x)

  • It's the worst when toddlers go across the house to eat something in order to be near another sim or be on the comfiest seat because it takes them forever to get there. In the first generation of my current save, most of the family would bypass the kitchen, dining room, and living room to gather in the office to eat and chat if one sim was already in there, I guess because they really liked the seating. They also gathered there to do homework as well.
