They did something to the UI to fix school events only happening to one person, and in the process messed something up. School events are now treated as holidays. I think this is related.
I've found that keeping any and all panels in the top left minimised (Scenario, discovery quests, school etc.) seems to stop the problem occurring. They keep minimising themselves anyway (never used to) so I decided to leave them like that, and so far I've not had the UI disappear on me since🤞
Not a fix, I know, but at least it renders the game playable again.
