Introducing custom avatars.
Hi all, one of the big asks we've gotten since the launch of the forum is custom avatars, and today we're happy to announce they're available. In order to keep content safe for everyone we need to work through the ea.com portal to upload custom avatars, so there's a small extra step, but it's still pretty straightforward. How do I set a custom avatar? Log in to your EA Account page on EA.com. Click the edit icon, and you can choose an item from the gallery, or update your own custom avatar. (fun fact, you can update your account/forum name here too if you wish) Please wait a bit, it can take about an hour for the update to process and be reflected on your account. Normally it's much faster, but we don't want you to be alarmed if it's not instant. When your EA account is updated, on the forum just log out and log back in, and your avatar will be updated. As with any new system, we might see some quirks or issues, so please let us know if you encounter any blips here.15KViews78likes0Comments[PC] Possible workarounds for Mass Effect Legendary Edition launch problems.
If the game does not start for you, there are several possible workarounds: Notice: Mass Effect Legendary Edition will not run on Windows 7. LE1 & LE2 will not run on CPUs with only 2 physical or logical cores. (You need 4 logical cores.) If you changed the global settings inside the "Manage 3D Settings" panel of the NVIDIA control panel anytime in the past, look at this post. Disable "Controlled folder Access" of the Windows defender. Disabling OneDrive PC folder backup. Corruptions in the "License" folder might also keep the games from starting. Make sure Origin and Steam are closed. Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time Copy and paste C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services into the new window > hit ENTER. Move the "License" folder to your Desktop > Test. A overprotective Virus scanner or other security software could also block the access to game files. (If you use "Sophos Home Premium" or other Sophos products look at this post and this post .) Disabling Bluetooth on some motherboards fixed the issues for some players as well. The Nahimic audio service, which is installed with the Realtek audio drivers from some motherboard manufacturers like MSI or Asus, causes many problems, and here it does too, it seems. (The Realtek stand alone audio drivers normally don't have the Nahimic software installed.) ROG's Sonic Radar 3 is one of the apps that uses it. If you use a VPN, look at this post. Check if the regional settings of your EA account (not EA app) is set right . If you have the game on Steam and it will only launch EA app but not the game, a possible cause is in this thread. (Warning! This requires some deeper computer knowledge.) Fixed: If you have a Windows user name with special characters in it: Either: create an new Windows user account with only ASCII characters in it. > Reboot > Log on to the new account > Test. Or: Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. Type or copy and paste "control" into the new window. (Without the quotes) > Hit ENTER. Choose "Region" > Administrative Tools > Change Locale > Check "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support" > klick "OK" Reboot > Test. This issue was fixed with Patch 1.03 It looks like the game requires a CPU with AVX instruction set It turned out that only the Launcher needs the AVX instruction set. Almost all CPUs built for end consumer use in the last 10 years have this instruction set. However, if you are not sure, you can check the technical specifications of your CPU on the manufacturer's website. If you have this problem, in this post by is a workaround for the problem. (As always, use third party tools at your own risk.) This issue was fixed with Patch 1.0357KViews48likes448CommentsEgonVM's Ultimate NPC Making Guide 2.0
So yeah, due to how these forums work with the spoilers, the original guide is somewhat messed up and updating it would result in loss of information. So, after some consideration, I've decided to make a V2.0 thread on it, using the similar approach to the List of Traits with link trees and each pack being in its own post (so it is collapsible). This thread will have two main posts under which I'll post the info. Please do not reply under them. You may reply to this post or other replies (including mine). Links to important replies: NPC Making List Additional Guides But how does it all work? Basically, if you ever wanted to make custom NPC sims, good news is that most of them can be done without any mods. The main cheats you are going to require are those: testingcheats on traits.equip_trait [trait_codename] careers.add_career [career_codename] In the guide, there are 5 types of "difficulties" I'm going to use (and emojis I'm using with it): 🔷Played-Friendly - These ones, usually traits, can not only also be taken from sims the Played Households, switching to the household the sim is in won't make them lose their NPC status. 📝Simply Assign a Career/Trait - These will lose their NPC status when you play with them. The usual way of making those is by making these sims, equipping them with the required traits and/or careers, then evicting them. 🏙Location-Based Career - Unfortunately, this is where the career location matters, and it is the venue they'll be working at. As to my knowledge, there isn't any way to set a career location to a sim without mods, the best bet here is to modify sims already working there or make one of the custom sim unplayed and hope they'll appear in that role. 🔻Must Be Unplayed - You may assign a required career and/or trait, but they'll won't appear in the role until you set the household to be unplayed. 👨👩👧👦Out of Control - Welp, these sims are chosen randomly from a broad selection. No way to influence the game to pick the sim you want... And in addition, these emojis represent the following: ✅️ Must have, meaning that your sim must have that skill, trait, career etc to appear in this role. 🟡 Optional, meaning that your sim can have it for the game to consider them more for the role, but they don't need to have it. Sometimes used in sub-types. ❌️ Mustn't have, meaning if your sim has the skill, trait, career etc, the game will never place them in the role even when all other conditions are met. ❕ Splits into sub-types, meaning that for the sim to appear in the role, they must meet at least one of the requirements in the following list below for the game to consider them. Ghosts and sims that are currently at work are usually excluded. In addition, this list shows the sims that will be excluded from the most of the roles: I've also decided to bring out templates too. These are not important when making NPC sims, but are rather some interesting side-info on how sims are generated for the role by the game. So yeah, look at the list and have fun making your own NPC sims!88KViews34likes473CommentsList of Traits in The Sims 4
Hello! Despite the discussion collecting these already existing, I've decided to make my own traits list due to how these forums work (it starts from the first post, not the last post, and it takes long to reach the last post). This list contains all the traits in-game, both visible and hidden, in these sections: Base Game Expansion Packs Game Packs Stuff Packs & Kits Non-Pack Filtered Visible Traits Non-Pack Filtered Hidden Traits Popular traits Update Log To add a trait, you'll need to use this cheat: traits.equip_trait [trait_codename] And to remove a trait, you'll need to use this cheat: traits.remove_trait [trait_codename] In both cheats, [trait_codename] needs to be replaced with trait's codename. For most of the personality traits, it's same as its name, but there are exceptions (Erratic for example). Find the trait codenames in the list below. These lists will be kept updated as patches and packs come out. Please do not post under these trait lists. If you'd like to suggest traits for the popular section or want to discuss some traits, please reply to either this post or someone else's.125KViews31likes95CommentsLevel up with EA forums ranks!
In the new forums everyone gets a rank to show their experience and activity level at a glance. It's mostly just for fun, and can be a good way to show your progress There are 3 main types of ranks on the forum; Standard, Superusers, and EA Personnel, which are detailed below. Standard Users Active Ranks Passive Ranks Sub-ranks Superusers EA Personnel For Standard ranks, they are generally 2 words, a sub-rank and main rank; so "Rising Novice, or Seasoned Observer". Active Ranks: For folks who post, reply, comment, like posts and mark solutions we have 10 main ranks to progress through, each with 3 sub-ranks. Exact requirements are hidden, but posting, replying, liking and providing solutions will all go towards making progress. Progress will tend to be faster earlier on, so you might find yourself flying through the ranks. If so, and you want to receive fewer notifications, please check this article. Newcomer Novice Rookie Traveler Scout Adventurer Vanguard Hotshot Veteran Ace Passive Ranks: We know that a lot of folks will never post on a forum, and that the majority of posts are made by a relative minority of forum-goers. For those folks who prefer to read, we have 2 main ranks, again with 3 sub-ranks each. 1: Spectator 2: Observer Sub-ranks Our, sub-ranks are: New, Rising, and Seasoned, and are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sub-ranks within the main rank. So for example a Seasoned Scout (rank 5) would level up to a New Adventurer (rank 6) Superusers You can find a more detailed breakdown of the Superuser program here, but in short, it's a way to recognize standout community members, they get a new rank, as well as some rewards and forum abilities. You'll recognize them by the Hero and Hero+ icons. EA personnel You'll see EA staff here gathering info, asking questions, moderating and helping where they can. The purple and blue folks are the dedicated forum staff that you'll likely see the most often, with the pink ranks being folks from our various gaming studios and support organizations.1.5KViews29likes0CommentsPlayers/Parents, video game control is in your hands. Account Security 101:
Guest blogger Asmodeus566 is a member of the EA Community Superuser Program. First off, I would like to remind everyone that account security starts with the account holder. Keeping track of your account, what it is connected to, ensuring that it is up to date and that others do not access it, is the responsibility of the account owner. If others use your account and get a ban on it it is your fault not theirs and not EA's. Account Security/Safety 101: How to keep your account and hardware safe: Use strong passwords for you game accounts. Keep track of your game account information (ownership) and to what other accounts they are connected to. Use strong passwords for the associated e-mail account. Keep track of your e-mail accounts and what they are connected to. Keep your gaming accounts, associated e-mail accounts and passwords up to date, log in to them at least once a month so that they do not become disabled or de-activated. Do not use e-mail accounts that you cannot fully control, like those provided to you through, schools, universities, workplace and or other organizations etc. If the organization. revokes your e-mail or you leave the school, switch workplace etc and no longer have access to that e-mail, you will end up having issues you do not want or need. Do not share either of these passwords with others. Keep note of your passwords in a safe place. Enable two factor identification for both the game and associated e-mail accounts. Do not let others use your game account (friends and family alike) because if they do something wrong on your account it is still your fault. Nobody wants to have a sanction on their account because somebody else did or said something wrong. Do not use internet café’s to access your account to play. You do not know what software is on the hardware there. You do not know if the hardware at the cafe has a hardware ban. All of this can affect your account in a negative way. I would suggest only accessing your account with your own trusted hardware, gaming on another person’s hardware brings some of the same risks as above. I would also suggest not letting others use your hardware to play with their account, because if they get a hardware ban on your hardware while using it, it can have a negative effect on your account. Buying used hardware comes with risks as well. The hardware could have been banned, and this is not an EA problem, but a problem between the buyer and the seller. Play nice with others, in other words do not de-mean, harass or bully others in Chat or over voice coms, both can be reported and that can also have a negative effect on your account. Use non-offensive user/gamer tag/club tags, if you get a warning about user/gamer tag/club tags, change it, doing otherwise can lead to a negative effect on your account. Play fair, boosting and teaming are cheating. Play fair, using cheating software or hardware is not fair and is really only cheating yourself. Do not buy and or sell accounts. Do you really know what has been done with the account? What cyber information are you giving up? What risk is there that the account is already banned? What is the risk to your hardware and personal information? Re-read the Terms of Service agreement and the Terms of Sale agreement. You agreed to play this game and adhere to it. EA User Agreement and EA Terms of Sale About points 7, 8, and 9, where a number of players or the entire family are using the same hardware and there has to be trust there, talking together about the does and don’ts on the use of the shared hardware should be done. This will ensure that everyone can enjoy what they do on the shared hardware and everyone's account can be safe. If you believe you have been hacked take appropriate measures to secure your account and associated e-mail account: Secure a Hacked EA Account If you believe that a sanction (Suspension/Ban) placed on your account was by mistake you should reach out to the Terms of Service team: Information about locked/banned/suspended accounts Contacting EA help: EA Help Hopefully these tips will help keep your account safe so that you can keep on gaming. I can usually be found on the EA Apex forums in English and sometimes on the Apex German (Deutsch) Forum, So if you need some help, post on the Apex Legends forum and tag me. See Spoiler below for German (Deutsch) translation.421Views23likes1CommentWhat's New on the Forum
Folks coming here may be familiar the older EA Forums or Answers HQ, our established support forum. The new EA Forums have some changes, which we’ll go over here. A broader focus Mark as Solution Linear and threaded views Introducing Tags! A new way of doing Bug Reports A broader focus Previous versions of our game forums were all about conversation and chatter, whereas AHQ zeroed in on troubleshooting, gathering information, and reporting bugs. This new forum aims to blend the best of both worlds: a vibrant social space to chat and connect, and a resource hub to get help, share fixes, report bugs, and resolve issues. Mark as Solution Folks who've used Answers HQ will be familiar with this, but for those completely fresh, this forum has the ability for a Discussion starter (or CM) to mark a post as Solution. For technical issues this might be a fix or workaround, or a critical piece of information. For some wider communication/emerging issues, it might be used to highlight updates or requests for additional info. This should be quite visible, so check them out when you see them. Linear and threaded views You can now view discussions in different ways! This can vary by community/forum, but you can also override this with your personal preference. From your Profile My Settings page, scroll down and pick from your options. Within threads, you can swap from sorting Oldest first, Newest first, or Most Liked first. For discussions, folks may want to stick to the default of Sorting by Most Liked, to see the most compelling community posts. For technical issues, it may be wise to sort by post time, to see how discussion of an issue grew and developed. Introducing Tags! These are super-important, they’re used to show relevant content at-a-glance, for helpers to find issues they might be able to assist with, and to make your content more searchable. Tags are set on a per-discussion basis, and different boards will have different tags available, depending on the content type. In most boards it isn’t mandatory to add tags when making a new discussion, but it’s usually a good idea to do so. For boards around technical issues we've made it mandatory for all to use tags. This way everyone will immediately know what your issue is or on which platform you play. Important information to get help with game! Adding a tag is simple, when creating a new discussion you’ll find available tags at the bottom of the page. Click the relevant ones, and they'll be added to the post when you publish it. We'll continue to evolve how we use tags, so if you have any suggestions don't hesitate to share them with us. A new way of doing Bug Reports We're shaking up how we do bug reports. When you make a report, we will automatically assign the "new" status to it. Once we have a chance to review, we will update the status ("under investigation", "needs info", and more) as appropriate. We'll update the status of these posts as necessary to better demonstrate where an issue is in the reporting process, and you can sort through the various statuses to see similar bugs or what stage your report is at.6.3KViews20likes0CommentsQ&A: Adventure Awaits
#AD (just in case this counts as social media) I can tell you ahead of time this time... I was invited to join the CFE (not final build) opportunity for The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits. Thank you to the EA Creator Network for this chance to answer questions for you about the pack! I will be taking and answering mainly questions about gameplay - Skills/Traits/Aspirations/Career/Venues/Systems/Lore - and anything else you guys want to know about! I will be testing with ALL PACKS in as I believe this is yet another pack with endless cross-compatibility possibilities. (Please Note: Testing with other packs in is unsupported before regular Early Access, so may be extra buggy.) I'm not a fast builder so will likely be testing things on a save full of downloaded Gallery lots. If you have any lots you want me to test flow for, either as a Custom Venue or Getaway location, then post a link to what you want tested and a description of how you envision it running. I'll play around with it and post any issues I find during testing. Format will be similar to past Q&As where I have links to each subject and add more info to each based on questions asked and as I discover things through gameplay. I can't start posting right away this time due to the embargo, but will be taking notes/screenshots and will post info when I can. P.S. - I also have a Creator Code now, so if you find my Q&A useful you might consider it as an option at checkout. This doesn't give you a discount, but it would give me a 5% commission on price of the pack. If you wish to use it, my code is EmmaVane. Just enter the code on the the payment screen where promo codes normally go. Thank you, EA for this opportunity.
