The game should work, your Mac is compatible. I really don't know what else to suggest. I can see if you have any other software installed on your Mac which maybe causing the issue, or if a hardware issue may be the cause. You would need to send me the system profile of your Mac though. I will be able to see a lot of info on your Mac and your user account name but no passwords or anything. I understand if you're not happy doing that 🙂

So pleased that setting up a new user account on your Mac finally got the game to launch again!
Can you now patch the base game using the manual patch and then try again. Then install each EP, testing after each install.
After downloading the patch, I tried playing the game and it said "Disc Authorization Failure"

Delete the account you set up then set up another one. Try it again and if prompted for a patch check if it is a game update or store content. Also, what is the patch number in the bottom left corner of the Launcher in the new account?
Oh, I went online and found the super patch because I thought that's what you meant (is that the same thing as when the bubble pops up for an update?). Then when I opened the game it said there was a patch for the store, I downloaded that, and then that's when I got the Disc Authorization Failure message. But I'll make a new account and try just updating the game through the launcher. I'll also check the patch number.
Okay, so I tried to play the game on a new user and it gave me the same "Disc Authorization Failure" message. A screen popped up for a patch, but it was just for the store. I didn't get a game update screen. The version number is 1.67.2.024001
That's interesting, so it seems to be the Store content patches that may be responsible for the disc error issues? That would make sense - the game is installed under your administrator account and the subsequent accounts you make are using the same install but have new user data folders in the Documents folders, that's why they are prompting for the store patches.
Do you have Showtime installed? Showtime and Macs don't play well. I had to uninstall it from my Mac and request a refund from EA because it made my game completely unplayable. I'm trawling through all my posts from years ago to try and help find a solution for you, hence the seemingly sporadic suggestions 🙂
So to clarify, you have the game installed through Origin now? or at least, your latest EP is digital through Origin? If so, in the newest user account you have set up, can you download and install the digital super patch again and apply it? You can find the link to the patch in my signature below.
Would maybe uninstalling and reinstalling the game be a possible solution? Or would that do nothing at this point?

Yeah, all my games are registered on Origin. I'll apply the super patch and see if that helps.
As always you have nothing to lose by uninstalling and reinstalling, it just takes time and is a pain! If you do, make sure to get rid of all the hidden files, as I've mentioned before. You could uninstall and reinstall in your main account, apply the digital patch and then try and play in the secondary account?
I successfully installed the patch, then was able to open and play the base game. Then I downloaded and installed Late Night, but it gave me the "Unknown Error Occurred" message again when I tried to play it. I did all of this on my new user account.
Should I try other EPs? Or should I just give up on those and accept that I can only play the base game?
(I can't believe there isn't a solution to this, and I'm upset about losing the EPs I paid for, but I don't want to lose the whole game again)
I uninstalled Late Night and was finally able to play Ambitions for the first time since I bought it!!
You're right, Late Night caused problems earlier too, which is really strange because I had been playing it for years, but oh well. At least now I can play with my new EP!
I'm a little nervous to try to install the High End Loft SP I had before, but I could probably live without it.
