Hi @Tallulah_44
could you try repairing the game through Origin and deleting your Origin cache files: http://sims4.crinrict.com/en/2014/09/delete-origin-cache-files/

hi, i have no idea, i run sims on windows 7.
i still havent found a fix.
If you're getting this error Sims 4 is already running - ed35e0ea:29f00e76:00000000:18a1dd51
Please post about it in the Sims Mac Board -
https://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/bd-p/The-Sims-MacSome technical issues need to be handled differently because they both are running different operating systems. Mac computer don't have Task Manager, but they probably have something similar.
- im not sure i read this right, im running on windows 7 and you want me to post about it on the mac forum?
They are very different as im sure you know,
at the moment i am not talking to sims, im fed up, im on a break from E.A and their crappy support.
all the best! - crinrict7 years agoHero+THink AB_928Z was talking to @romerojaaj1212
- if you are on mac then click command and spacebar at the same time, them type in activity moniter. click enter. and you are now at task manager

Also running SiM on Windows 7 SP 1, getting the same error. I uninstalled sim , origin, and ran a service pack update , took origin out of the start up folder ....
** SAME ERROR this has to be a bug in the game, where are the EA people to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try holding down ctrl+alt+del at the same time on your keyboard. This will open the task manager.
Windows 7 will give you a blue screen where you can choose the task manager. See if TS4.exe is running, if so force stop it.Hi, Im writing this note with no solution, but if nothing else, I can sympathise and reassure you that there is no solution at your end that is simple, EA support were mostly useless as well.
Its a problem with those of us mostly using windows 7 and its some kind of permissions error, I tried absolutely everything and I am no novice when it comes to my pc.
The solution I found in the end was to go to my other pc, with reduced capabilities compared with my laptop, and sign in on that and sims 4 ran like it is meant to.
there is no instance of TS4 already running, its not that simple.
If you keep ringing EA and persist, I hope you can get them to assist you with a work around that was better than mine.
after all, not everyone has more than one device set up for game play, and we shouldn't need to, but it would appear most people dont realise that this is a REAL ISSUE and cannot be fixed with 101 pc skills, it has to be done with a permissions change that is not intermediate knowledge, EA should have a walk through method by now.

Hi Sally Bear and thank you VERY much for the dialogue. My 12 year old started this thread and then i jumped in as a former IT guy in a different life. Like you, my instinct was the OS so i tried the Service Pack updates on Windows 7 ultimate, after i completely removed and reinstalled origin and Sim. the only account on this PC is administrator so the permissions error must be embedded somewhere in the code as it interfaces with the OS? Anyhow, this ridiculous error has gotten my attention and i intend to try a few more things because as you noted, ts4 is not running in task manager, until we attempt to start the SIM 4 and the accompanying error message.
Q: If it is a permission error, why did it crop up after 2 months? Maybe as additional items are downloaded?
just had a thought, try fresh re install without add ons to test this theory
JTS
Could try the solution:

Thank you it is a good idea, but the solution presented is for Windows 10 and we are running windows 7. I know it is NTFS file system on Windows 7 but not sure if same permissions issue might be occurring and where does windows 7 put the Electronic Arts\documents subdirectyory
Hi,
that is some lucky 12 yr old, and they are going to need your help, I note your question, it must be embedded somewhere, and clearly makes no sense, I tried a clean install when it all began
. I like you, started looking into this for my kids as well, but alas i dont have an I.T background.
I think this is an oversight on EA's part, its a permissions error, but not in a way that there is a straight forward work around. I initially tried every suggested tactic by peeps on here, and while following EA's support staff, which were a waste of time, if they cant find a quick fix, they just disconnect.
Good luck in finding the solution, It will take someone with your skills to find it.
meanwhile, the rest of us running windows 7 having this so called permission error, have had to use a different machine.
I would be most interested in your progress, as would hundreds of other players who gave up long ago, but love sims.
thanks , all the best,
keep us updated.
- ApprovedAnonymous7 years agoHi again, long time ago in a galaxy far far away i was an it guy! Thinking that the add ons she downloaded are what is causing this problem because she played the game happily for about a month, ever accruing new accouterments. JTS

on your computer hit control alt delete then choose task manager
Feb 9 2019. Brand new purchase & first time install of Origin and The Sims4. Windows 10
The common theme in this topic is that Windows is denying the game to run. It seems the problem is Windows Permissions.
The error message says that the game is already running, that is false, the problem is the game is missing permission to run. After experience with Sims2 + Sims3, this is EXACTLY the kind of mistake Electronic Arts has made before.Every person may experience a slightly different solution than this. Because the problem is permissions, everyone's security settings maybe different. Here is the solution that worked for me:
1 Windows Security Centre
2 goto "allow an app through Controlled folder access"
- from Security Centre, open Virus & Threat Protection, open Ransomware Protection, click Allow An App.
- or from the search bar you can type "allowed apps" and it should get you there.
3 click the + sign to Add An Allowed App
4 navigate to your file folder with "Origin.exe" and add that. (IE: C:\Games\Origin\)
4 navigate to your file folder with "TS4_x64.exe" and add that. (IE: C:\Games\Origin\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\)
5 close the Origin lancher app, including from TaskManager, to make sure its not still in the background.
6 Run: TS4_x64.exe (or however you normally run the game)Hope this helps someone.
Even if your steps are different on your computer, the idea is Windows Security is the problem.
Good Luck- @bluepixiestix neither of those files exist apparently. I've tried everything including deleting the cache, this, and running as an admin and still nothing works
have you figured out where the task manager is?
- @Tallulah_44 Did you ever figure it out?
