Sims 4 Crashes

@abc1190706171  Those errors are most often related to the driver for your graphics card, so it's a good idea to update it.  First though, your dxdiag lists a number of other Windows system errors.  While there's no indication they're serious, it's a good idea to run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files.  Here's how:

• Hit Windows key-X
• Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
• Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
• The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
• After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
• Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
• Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
• Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the button to check for updates.  If any are installed, restart again before installing the graphics driver.  You can get a newer one here:

Choose the custom install and perform a clean install, then restart once it's done installing.  If you get another crash, please provide the same Reliability Monitor info as before; that's very helpful.

I ran the dism and it finished 100% with no errors.
I ran the sfc and it finished with-
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

Finished updates to windows and graphics driver. Game crashes to white screen. 

earlier reliability monitor didn’t show anything for the crashes today. Any further ideas?

@abc1190706171  The Reliability Monitor sometimes doesn't update for an hour or two, so you may not be seeing the most recent error(s).  But one thing you can try is disabling Origin in-game: hover over your username, select Application Settings, then the Origin in-game header, and disable the option at the top.

If that doesn't help, move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just see whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.  Let me know either way.

It still crashes. I see this entry in the monitor related to my graphics card?

@abc1190706171  That's definitely related to your Nvidia graphics driver, and the approach at this point is to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver.  Given the error, this is a good idea regardless of how Sims 4 runs.  Download Display Driver Uninstaller from here:

Next, take your computer completely offline—disable wifi and/or pull the ethernet cord—and double-click the DDU.exe.  Take note of where the file will land, and click Extract.  If it's easier, you can copy the path and then paste it into the address bar in a File Explorer window.  Open the folder and then launch Display Driver Uninstaller.exe, and you'll get a message that you're not in Safe Mode.  Click OK, then go to Options and enable Safe Mode dialog.  Here's a screenshot of what your options should look like; make sure the box in red is checked:

Close options, and the DDU, and then open the DDU.exe again.  For launch options, choose "Safe Mode (Recommended)," and then click Reboot to Safe Mode (you'll need your password, so find it before rebooting).  Once you login, you'll see this:

In the blue box, choose GPU, then Nvidia if it's not already showing.  Then click Clean and Restart (red box).

Once your computer has rebooted, now back in normal mode, run the driver install .exe in custom mode.  Select "perform a clean installation" and install ONLY the GPU driver and the PHYSX software.

Reboot again, go back online, and see whether the game crashes again.  If it does, another Reliability Monitor entry would be useful.

Did the driver per your instructions. Game crashes. Reliability only shows numerous windows errors for livekernel.

I moved the sims4 folder out and the game works so far. 

@abc1190706171  If you get another crash in the clean folder, I'd be interested to see what new error(s) you get in the Reliability Monitor.  LiveKernelEvents are serious errors, and the specific error code (the number after the "LiveKernelEvent") indicates the type of error being reported, so the info would be useful to see.

These are from prior to the clean install of the graphics driver. My kid didn't like playing a new game so we got rid of the new folder created and put the original one back and game crashed.

@abc1190706171  The LiveKernelEvents 141 and 117 are specifically related to the graphics driver, so hopefully the clean install addressed whatever problem was causing them.  The 133 error could in theory be related to just about anything, so more info and context would be useful.  But it's possible that was related to the GPU driver too, so if it doesn't recur, you can probably just ignore it.

The fact that the game crashes when you use the old Sims 4 user folder but not the new one suggests very strongly that the issue, or the current issue at least, is something in the user folder.  You can start again with a clean folder, make sure the game works, and then move your content into it from the old folder in batches, testing each time.  When you get a crash, you'll know that one of the files you just moved is a problem, and you can split and test the last batch until you figure out which one.

Just in case, please also check the sizes of your save files, which are unsurprisingly in the saves folder inside the Sims 4 folder.  Let me know what sizes they are, or take a screenshot and post it.  (You can sort by modified date to distinguish among them.)  There was an issue that caused severe save bloating, and lag and crashing to go with it; while it was fixed in the first December patch, affected saves were not fixed.
