- HappyHourSumwur2 years agoSeasoned Ace@DankToliet There are people posting in these forums that they don't understand why they can't find a purple armor, even in a Loba ult. You'd think that they would have had to levelled up at least once or noticed something called an EVO Core in their inventory instead of a shield. People just don't pay attention.
I'm personally seeing the MM get worse. My teammates are even more clueless (I literally had a teammate crouch and watch me get aped by a 3 stack without even shooting the other day; they are running off to 1v3/1v6/1vThe Lobby at the first opportunity more often, etc.), my enemies have even better aim and coordination, and I go longer getting absolutely obliterated before it feels like I get dropped into a lower lobby.
The EVO Changes have made it worse because your random teammates do less to help you level up your shields and winning your first 1v1 (less than 50% chance of this for me given the level of enemies I get matched against) doesn't get you enough EVO to level up on your own (you'd be blue shield in the old system) so you just get mopped up by that kid's teammate anyways. Winning the first fight is a 1 in 5 shot at best, TBH. - CCbathwater2 years agoSeasoned Ace
I made the mistake of playing yesterday. Sundays on Apex are, and always have been, an absolute disaster! I had people that... I don't even know, man. I even had a Wraith that was completely clueless of how basically anything in the game worked. Why is this player on my team? And also, the 3-stacking badges people were back on the champ screen. I just insta leave on the champ screen when I see them. Give me two unrealistic banners as teammates if you want me to even try this, Respawn, or I just go next.
Feels like they removed SBMM from pubs this weekend or something. An absolute horror show.
Took me like 4-5 hours to get a win yesterday, because... teammates. Had to wait for these two
to get a win and have a fun game, with 3 teams left at the end. Game quality just go up tenfold when you have teammates that have gun skills, game sense, and actually use their abilities. Didn't like the jump, Horizon died, but at least instead of staying and fighting two teams, Wraith got out of there, me too, we got Horizon back in, rotate and loot on the way, killing everyone in our way.
Then you have a game where they loot Carrier for the entire round 1. They only got out of there because ring was chewing on them. I was already in Estates when they got out of Carrier. Was on the verge of leaving. A win is a win though. Out here working on the 1000 wins on Lifeline, while Thunderdome is on Mixtape.

"The EVO Changes have made it worse...."
I still can't quite wrap my mind around this system. I can understand why they made the change and I understand what they were trying to accomplish. But the devil is in the details, and those seem a little off to me. Far, far too many people, solo queue players, have played enough now to know that without a focused team then the evo process is dead in the water. So they go hot drop for a quick thrill and quit when that goes south. Strange how a mechanic which was designed to produce a specific set of behaviors can inadvertently cause an entire sub-population to stop even trying. If I have one message for Respawn then it's this:
You cannot engineer a team-oriented player out of a solo-minded player no matter what kind of incentives or punishments you build into the game. So please stop trying. - @reconzero I said before the season the Evo changes could produce more hot dropping. Why? Because now you can drop without worry the other guy is going to get lucky and find a purple.
I'm loving the changes myself but I've only played the ltm where I get a guaranteed 3v3 to start. I have not found it hard to get to purple with only half the teams in the game
Passive players need to find stuff to upgrade their armor. Evo caches are marked on the map. If playing certain characters you can just land on spots that have their bins or their consoles. Heck if playing pathfinder just find and Evo cache, pick your blue ability based on what console is nearby and then go scan with it. - reconzero2 years agoSeasoned Ace@hayhor
"I'm loving the changes myself but I've only played the ltm where I get a guaranteed 3v3 to start."
LTM? This season started with an LTM? I really need to get out from underneath my BR pubs rock....
"Passive players need to find stuff to upgrade their armor."
This is a viable meta, but it's a little more luck-dependent than previous seasons where gunplay OR a crafter OR luck with ground loot could net you the shield you needed, and do it with a lot less risk and a lot less time than you need now. The new system makes me, who was already engagement averse, even less interested in an early-game or even mid-game tussle. And the odds of getting to final five with inadequate gear are higher. In my case it doesn't lead to garbage fights, it just leads to quitting, and while I'm sort of okay with that, I might get less okay with it if it persists in being too high a percentage of matches over the course of the whole season. And what kind of message does that send to less experienced squadmates who don't understand why I bail, they just know they had two squadmates and suddenly for no apparent reason they now have only one? Personally I feel that's the dev's problem more than it is mine. All I'm doing is looking at the achievability of the objective and applying common sense and experience to make a go-no-go decision. If they make it too hard to attain then what's a player supposed to do? Not sure if I mean that rhetorically or not. I can see several different answers to the question, but I'm putting them all on hold for now until I have a better sense of how these new mechanics will play out over the course of the season. - HappyHourSumwur2 years agoSeasoned Ace
@reconzeroI actually think they got mostly what they were going for but unintended consequences are unavoidable.
The big issue is that they can't or won't fix the underlying issues that keep this game from being more consistently great, namely matchmaking, anti-cheat, & smurfing. MM is just inability (despite the blog post they don't know how), anti-cheat is just being cheap (same could be said for not upgrading the servers), and smurfing is because they actually encourage it for pro and streamer content. On that last point their PR strategy seems to be to engage with the community through a small group of 'influencers' who I believe are increasingly out of touch with your normal player. - @reconzero I think the big difference if going solo is not being able to find a blue or purple shield if you land in an area by yourself? There was never any guarantee you would find one or have a crafter to go from white to blue.
Once the ltm is done I plan to try some no fill games to see how hard it really is. - reconzero2 years agoSeasoned Ace
- HappyHourSumwur2 years agoSeasoned Ace@hayhor Winning a 1v1 won't get you blue shields now and it did before. Opening a special loot bin (+100 evo) plus hitting the evo harvester (+350 evo) will do it though.
- RockDokRock2 years agoSeasoned Ace@HappyHourSumwur Just do what many of us do. I refuse to play entirely with randoms (outside of mixtape, but there I'm just focusing on weapons objectives so really don't care). I always play with at least one friend and sometimes a pre made squad. Won't touch it otherwise, it's pointless.
