Re: EA Desktop asks me to log in to my microsoft acc, but I own the games.

Hey @voteDC,

Is it possible that you have owned an EA Play via Xbox Game Pass subscription in the past?

Because you mention that you own the game standalone, can you go back to Origin (fully close the EA app first) and check if you can play the game as normal?

@EA_Leeuw I've never had a EA Play subscription but I am currently a Gamepass Ultimate subscriber. The only EA game I've played on the service so far is the Xbox 360 version of Dragon Age: Origins.

As you suggested I did download and install Origin again. With just Origin running the game runs without issue.

I just don't like having to have two launchers installed that are there for the same purpose. Until EA Play can tell the difference between purchases and subscription based titles I'm probably going to not use it again, as at the moment it is kind of pointless.

@voteDC, alright, so with Xbox Gamepass Ultimate, you get EA Play. At least, you can claim it and make use of it for as long as you have the Gamepass Ultimate.

Did you also have Gamepass Ultimate before you started to experience this specific issue?

@voteDC, gotcha, and you never claimed the EA Play from Xbox Game Pass, right?

@EA_Leeuw No, I did not claim EA Play from Gamepass. As mentioned the only EA experience I have had with Gamepass is streaming Dragon Age: Origins on the Xbox 360.

@voteDC, thanks for all the deets, passed them on the the teams.

In this case I suspect that the only workaround would be to play the game via Origin for the time being.
  • I also have the same problem, i bought Fifa 22 Ultimate version. Now the EA App keep asking me for EA Game Pass. And it doesn't help by using Origin, FIfa crash by launching.

    Hey @gaulokchok,

Sorry, I am not sure if I understand your correctly. You have bought FIFA 22 Ultimate Edition for PC (so you own it standalone), you have also used the EA Play for the EA app that you can claim via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but this EA Play for the EA app expired, which now results in that FIFA 22 Ultimate Edition doesn't want to boot anymore?
  • Hello, I have the same problem. I linked my Microsoft account with Game Pass to my EA account to get EA Play. I tried the BF2042 trial and bought the game afterwards. Now my Game Pass is expired and the EA app wants me to log in to my Microsoft Account every time the EA app starts and I click on play or update on ANY game, not only BF2042. It also doesn't matter if I click on "remember login" in the MS login screen. Attached screenshot show the procedure.

  • @stillcr4nk@EA_LeeuwI have the same. I used Xbox gamepass Ultimate with EA play to get early access to 2042 which gave me the Utlimate edition as a trial. I then purchased the standard edition game through origin but the trial seemed to still be registered as a separate game somewhere within my account. I know this because when updating the standard edition it would say updating trial edition

I recently installed EA App which uninstalled Origin and now when I launch the game it asks for microsoft account login. When I select cancel twice it loads the game but it is a bit clunky to have to do that every time

Yup same thing is happening to me.

EA phone support literally told me to just resubscribe to Game Pass to play a game I already fully own. Pretty ridiculous.

  • @EA_Leeuw Hey and thanks for the response.
Unfortunately clearing the cache didn't solve the problem. I tried both recommended methods in the link.

@stillcr4nk, thanks for trying. I've passed it on to the team so they can take a look into it. At the moment, since you have purchased the game as a standalone version, and the EA app is refusing to allow you to play the game, I think that the only workaround would be to go back to Origin. However, the way to download Origin has changed a bit, but this link should work: https://www.dm.origin.com/download. Be aware though that Origin and the EA app can't be opened at the same time.

    Hey all (tagging @stillcr4nk@Daveed84x@Jumbobreakfast),

A little update about the situation; so at the moment, this seems to be working as intended.

The teams also came up with a potential solution:

    • Clicking "cancel" on the log-in prompt, and then clicking "close" on the next window should allow you to download or launch your game.

Could you maybe give this a try and report back if this works for you?

However, I understand that this isn't exactly a nice flow, and that feedback has been passed on to the teams.

    Excuse you, "working as intended"?
So this is a deliberate dark pattern to bully legitimate customers into getting a new subscription?

The "potential solution" is a poor work-around at best, given that this requires several clicks through misleading information about titles that you already have a valid license for without any subscription or logging in again.

To be clear, desired behavior is as follows:
The launcher lets you play any game you have a license to, without any irrelevant dialogs getting in the way.
The launcher ONLY shows the discussed dialog prompts IF and ONLY IF the user does not have a license, and access can be gained through such a subscription.

Also: there shouldn't be a bar at the top either complaining about logging into a microsoft account that was only relevant during a single month of a gamepass trial, or there should be an obvious way to disable that reminder.

    Hey @RC-1290,

    Cheers for the feedback.

As mentioned in my previous post; I understand that this isn't exactly a nice flow, and that feedback has been passed on to the EA app teams.

However, at the moment, in the meantime, the only potential solution would be to click away/cancel the warning screens.

  • Hey @EA_Leeuw !

Thanks for the responses, I had the same problem, and now it really works as you described.

However this method is really misleading, please fix it as soon as possible, because at the first attempts, I thought I lost my owned games just because once I activated and connected GamePass in the past with my account. This is not a "working as intended" solution, but an ugly quick-fix instead.

I tried the EA App because I heard that now its officially replaced Origin after 2 years of development, but as I can see even 2 years wasn't enough to be "perfect". With Origin, it works fine, no problem at all.

    Regards, Daniel

This works and it's what I've been doing, but it's absolutely absurd that I have to do this. This shouldn't be considered "Working as intended". This should be fixed in a future release of the EA app. As it stands now, I won't be purchasing any additional games from EA until this is fixed.

@EA_Leeuw I have to agree with others here this simply isn't an acceptable solution. If the EA app is going to replace Origin then it should be a better user experience and it simply isn't. Did the app team really think this was a good way to do things?

    Hey @timmccansy@Daveed84x@voteDC,

I can understand that this isn't the solution you were hoping for, but at the moment it's sadly the only one there is.

As mentioned in my previous posts, the feedback regarding this has been passed on.
