Neighbourhood Stories Not Following Settings

Hi everyone!

I am having endless problems with neighbourhood stories.

I rebuilt my entire world with custom made households while Neighbourhood Stories was turned off. I saved, then turned Neighbourhood Stories back on and instantly tweaked the permissions in Manage Households.

The options I kept on were:

Have a baby

Join a career

Leave a career

Retire from a career

Yet after a few days of gameplay I've had endless in-game notifications saying households are adopting children and animals. I wouldn't mind but the way the game does it is so over the top and completely random that it really feels unrealistic and breaks the immersion. (My intention is to play my way around each household making meaningful friendships and relationships and giving them realistic lives.)

I'm seeing things like a single woman in an apartment adopt horses! As well as cats and dogs; when both the Adopt Cats & Dogs and Rescue Horses options are turned off. To the point where it's one sim and a ludicrous amount of animals.

I'm seeing households that are just full of cats and dogs and no one else, presumably as above but the human sim has died at some point.

I'm seeing married couples split to marry or move in with other sims in other households even though divorce/separation isn't even an option in Neighbourhood Stories.

In Configure Neighbourhood Stories it says the settings are applied to all households in My Households (which is all of them as I've placed each family myself) but they're still doing it!

My eco-living girl in Sulani married a loner vampire I made and moved to Forgotten Hollow (and she doesn't even like men!)

I have tried:

Removing all mods (I don't use many anyway just a few basic ones to fix other in game issues such as a pach for maids not cleaning properly and simulation lag fix).

I don't use any CC so no need to try removing that.

I have repaired the game files in EA App countless times.

My game is always auto-updated

Am I missing something here?

I spent so long building and populating my save but it all keeps messing up. It's really frustrating and it's so tedious having to manage all of the households every few days.

Any advice appreciated! Neighbourhood stories is just, well, ruining the stories! I'd turn it off completely but I want them to be able to do something other than just aging while I'm not playing them.

Thanks 🙂

  • @Nafretili Are other households turned off and you still see it happening for them ?

There are a few bug reports on the stories but for example, marrying another Sim is not part of Neighborhood Stories at all. Did you get an actual story about that ? Are you usually using any mods that have story progression like MCCC that you removed ?
  • Hey,

So I played a bit yesterday to let the game do it's thing.

It appears as though it's the randomly generated households that are moving in and automatically being granted permission to do weird stuff.

I've not seen any changes with my main households, it seems to be all focused on sims that are being generated by the game and moving into lots by themselves.

    Hmm!

@Nafretili Do you get stories for Sims getting married ? What's weird stuff ? Any of the regular NPC stories that come with the game (death, childern, moving out, adoption, getting a job, etc) or also getting married ?

Did you check your settings for other households ?
  • The weird stuff to which I referred is what I was talking about in my original post. A ridiculous amount of pets, moving in / merging with existing households and becoming exempt from the NS rules (or so it seems).

I can't see where to change settings for 'other households' - that would solve all my problems I think!

    1. Save your game if desired.

    2. Press F5 and Just Go to Manage Worlds. (You can use the Manage Worlds button on the top right interface, or Manage Worlds from the Options Menu if you prefer.)

    3. Click the Manage Households button on the top right interface.

    4. Click the Other Households tab.

    5. Click the Neighborhood Stories button to the far right of the tabs to Configure Neighborhood Stories for all households on that tab.

    6. Use the buttons underneath each houssehold's portrait to give them individual settings.

    7. Close Manage Households once you are finished to return to Manage Worlds.

    8. Select the household you want to play and load that household.

    9. Save your game. (Optional, of course, but strongly recommended unless you are just testing things.)

  • Thanks, I have already done that for the households I placed, but the randomly generated townies seem to have rules of their own!

@Nafretili The townies are other households. There's not other set of rules.

Could you post pics of both your settings for my household and other household ?

Merging with existing households also isn't part of NS to my knowledge. Just households moving. If you still seeing marriages and part moving, you might wanna do a factory reset and test a new save for testing purposes to see if that works properly.

If you look in Manage Households, the My Households and Other Households have two separate sets of Neighborhood Stories settings. They look like they would be the same, but they're not. Your game generated townies are underOther Households. Open up that tab then open Neighborhood Stories settings and you'll see their settings and be able to adjust from there.

Households merging/marrying is from a mod, not from Neighborhood Stories.

Perhaps that mod is also interfering?

Yes, the randomly generated townies do have rules of their own. That's why step 4 of the procedure I gave you was, "Click the Other Households tab." That's how you get to the second set of rules.
