Elder Spellcaster can’t make Potion of Immortality

@buddhachickdoes this only happen with that one potion, or does she have problems making other potions as well?  Do you have any other Sims who can make that potion that are younger in your game or any of your save game files?🤔

I checked the Bug Reports list and there is no bug report that is similar to yours.  

I also checked in my game and I do have a Master ranked Elder, but she isn't very good at potions and doesn't know most of them, including the Potion of Immortality, so I can't test with an Elder as of now.☹️  I do have a Young Adult that is Virtuoso ranked (this is above Master), that is well versed in potions and knows the Immortality potion and has all the ingredients.  She was able to successfully brew some. 🙌  

Are you playing on a console or on a PC or Mac?  If you are playing on a PC or Mac do you happen to play with Mods or Custom Content (CC)? 🤔  If you CC or Mods are outdated (which usually happens after EA releases a patch ) then they will cause problems in your game. If that is the case you will have to replace any outdated Mods/CC with versions that are updated to work with the most recent game patch which came out on June 10th. 

If you use CC or Mods, please do all of the following:

1) Move the Mods Folder to your desktop

2) Delete the  localthumbcache.package file in the game folder. (This is very important!) 🤨

3) Fix you game in Origin by logging in and go to Library, then right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the "Repair Game" option from the list.  Wait until Origin finishes repairing all your packs and not just the base game, unless you are on a Mac , as then it will just repair the base game. 

4) Now, when you turn on your game again, it will create a new mods folder that will be empty.  Check to see if your game is now working without mods/CC.

5) Now you can try adding back items from your Mods folder one at a time checking your game each time to see which item is causing your game to not work properly.  If you have a lot of items, you can try the 50/50 Method. 

The CC creators will usually update the CC items and Mods after these updates, so when you find out which one is the culprit, you can get the updated version from whoever made that item of CC in the first place.  You should try these steps any time you have problems in your game to rule out CC/Mods problems.  It is the responsibility of the Mods/CC creators to update their items anytime EA releases a patch/update, and it is the responsibility of the people who use Mods/CC to make sure they are using the most recent version. 

If the steps listed above do not help your situation, or if you don't use Mods or CC then your problem is caused by something else, possibly a bug that hasn't been reported.  However we have to rule out any Mods/CC conflicts first! 😉

Thank you so much for responding @PugLove888.  I recently got RoM and this is my first spellcaster, so I don't know if I'm having issues with other sims.  I'm trying to rank up the elder's daughter to try it out on her.  I am using mods, this family in particular is using a heavier one, the Foster Family mod by lilmssam (not sure of spelling).  I thought I had gone through and updated everything but I could have missed something.  That can be my weekend project.  I do use MCCC and some smaller script mods, but nothing that I can see that would conflict (homework and walking the dog...).  I have had this particular sim use the Potion of Rejuvenation a few times since I don't want her to die and she had not learned the potion yet.  Maybe it conflicts somehow?  

I'll go through the method you suggested and also try a stripped game and post again over the weekend.  

@buddhachick, thanks for replying! 😇  I can see if RoM is new to you that you might be unsure if it is the something you are not understanding about gameplay, or if it is a bug, or if it is just a glitch in your game or on that lot or that Sim.  😞

However, even if you wouldn't think your Mods have anything to do with the problems you are seeing, it doesn't really matter as they can affect seemingly unrelated aspects of your game! 🤨😞 I've seen people here with CC eyelashes (no Mods) that prevented their Sims from going to work! 😮😃  So you just never know until you test them like I listed in my other post! 🤨
I think running the test sounds like a good weekend project! 🙂  Just be sure to do all the steps.  

Also, if the CC/Mod test doesn't help and all your Mods are up to date, then it still could either be a bug (that many others will have as well) or else it could be a glitch that is unique to your save game file, that particular lot, or that particular Sim.  
Sometimes glitches can be fixed by simply traveling with your household to another lot (like a park, gym, or museum) and then traveling back.  There are some more ways to deal with glitches, but I will wait to hear the results of your Mods/CC test first! 😉

@PugLove888 @I’m sure it will come down to bad cc or a mod. In theory elders should be able to use the potion though?  I can also try a new save and cheat up the sim with no cc/ mods and try there. Lots to do this weekend.

@PugLove888  I removed the Mods folder to my desktop and went into my save having issues.  The Elder sim was still unable to brew the potion, in the Magic Realm or on her own lot.  I then created a new game and cheated up the sim to the same rank/XP perks.  He learned the spell and was able to create it on his home lot.  I did not try to have anyone else in the Elders save learn the potion and create it.  

Another update-  Cheaty MCCheatSim was able to brew a Rejuvination potion as an elder, drink it, then brew and drink an immortality potion.  This was after reinstalling mods/cc.  

@buddhachick, thank yo so much for the updates! 😇  Using this information I think your problem is probably a glitch with just that one Sim, or that one lot, or that one Save Game file. 🤔
There are a couple of things you can do to try to reset your original Sim in order to try to reset it so that the glitch is gone. 

1). If you haven't done so already, you can just delete the localthumbcache.package file in the game folder and then repair your game through Origin (like I instructed above). 
2.) You can try to travel with your household to a lot like a park, gym, or museum and then travel back.  This sometimes resets Sims.
3) You can try to move out of that house and either into a new one (probably not what you want to do), or else move out and then move back into the old house. (Still tedious -- you have to remember not to sell all the furniture so it goes to their Household Inventory so they can use it again when they move back... but then you have to place everything again! 😞  I would use this as a last resort. 
4). you can use a cheat to reset your Sim.  Bring up the Cheat Box like before and in it type testingcheats on and press Enter
Then with the Sim you want to reset being the Sim you have selected, Shift-click on that Sim and a pie menu will pop up.  Choose Reset Object (Debug) from the pie menu and your Sim should reset. (You can then type testingcheats off and press Enter when you are finished.). 😉

I’ll see if any of these work a little later today. I don’t seem to have the localthumbcache.package file. I have another for online stuff but it was empty. I’ll repair the game and see if it repopulates. 

@PugLove888 I've been at it for a little while now.  I DID find and delete the localthumbcache.package file.  I was looking for a folder, not just a file.  I repaired the game.  I play tested again with the new save and it worked fine for the cheated up sims.  

I've been play testing in my "glitched" save for a few hours.  I had them move houses, jump lots, and used debug to reset my sim.  All with no luck getting her to create the potion.  I've been trying to rank up her daughter as a spellcaster to see if the glitch will effect her as well.  She only has a few days left before becoming an elder... ☹️  

If all else fails I can always Copypasto the potion that was created when she learned it...  I haven't had her try using it since we have been trying to figure out the issue.

I agree, I think the problem is just a glitch with this save.
