Re: Game Not Launching With Mods

@tr1llestaries

Rename the Sims 4 folder, launch the game so a new one is created then quit.

Move one of your Mods into the newly created Sims 4 > Mods folder, do not move over any other data from your original Sims 4 folder, then load the game. What happens?

Was a new Sims 4 folder created in the Electronic Arts folder when you tried to launch the game after moving the old one?

Thanks. So you moved one Mod into the newly created Mods folder then launched the game and it crashed again? What was the Mod?

Which exact model Mac do you have? And which macOS version?

@Bluebellflora Not necessarily crashed, it just won't open at all and I get the notification that the game isn't responding. I tried just mccc and it opened after loading for 2 whole minutes, then when I added UI cheats it didn't respond at all! I have a MacBook Air and it's running on MacOS 14.4

Hi @tr1llestaries Let's test in a whole new user folder, so that there's no legacy information at all, AND with new mod downloads, so it's not a file you've moved before.

    1. Drag the whole Sims 4 folder to the desktop (or rename it, but personally, I find it easier to move it). EDIT: I know you did this before, but I'd like to try it in combination with fresh mod downloads.
    2. If you had previously set the EA App to launch Sims 4 in DX11 mode, delete that setting in the app. We want as default as possible here. (Ignore that part as you're on a Mac.)
    3. Start Sims 4 so it creates it a new user folder. Then exit.
    4. Download a new copy of a mod. I would suggest TwistedMexi's Better Exceptions (use the link from his website; you want version v3.13) or, since it caused you problems, UI Cheats Extension.
    5. Double click the zip folder and drag the mod file to the newly created Mods folder
    6. Start Sims 4.

Let me know if you this works. If it doesn't, let me know exactly how it doesn't work.

@tr1llestaries Awesome! I honestly don't know how your Mods files might have gotten corrupted, but I suspect that's the case. Your best option could be to redownload new copies.

You might, though, check if something happened to change the file extensions of your mods. I know a lot of people don't see those in their folder view, but if you could turn on seeing the full file name and post a screenshot of your (currently removed) old Mods folder, I'd be happy to take a look.

@luthienrising I have a lot of mods (mostly custom content) so it wouldn't fit in a screen capture unfortunately. I still can't add more than a few files (any at random) into my game without it refusing to launch though, IDK it just doesn't seem possible that so many random mods could be corrupted?

@tr1llestaries It could be just a problem that isn't showing up because of how you're breaking up the 50-50. For the screen cap, just any screen that includes some CC and maybe a non-CC mod or two is enough to see if there's a filename issue. And as noted, I'm happy to look at a list of mods if you use the link above to produce one. The file those instructions produce includes lots of info that can help find issues. (Likely tomorrow before I look at it though. I have a date with Doctor Who.)

Is this good? Lol. Also could you send that link again if it's not?

  • I was dealing with the same issue! It works !!! Thank you very much!! ❤️

See those little cloud icons next to the filenames? That means they are in iCloud and not local in the Mods folder on your Mac, where they need to be.

What app is set to open those files? If they have the .package or .ts4script extension they should show as simply white pages. You have a specific app set which has archived them I think? Right click on one of those files and choose Get Info from the menu that appears. In the pop up window about halfway down you should see an "Open with..." option. If it isn't expanded click the arrow to expand it. This will tell you the app it's using.
