I'm A Controller User That Thinks Aim Assist Should Be Removed.

@Popa2caps Fair enough if you want to discuss decreasing the strength of Aim Assist. Maybe debating when AA should take effect or how it should work.

You're on something if you think a controller has the ability to be as quick and precise as a mouse.

Hello, Help me understand this.

If you're trying to justify the use of aim assistance because Apex Legends PC has access to native mouse & keyboard support, then why does Apex Legends have aim assist on consoles being there is no native mouse & keyboard support?

Everytime I see the same replies when people use the excuse that aim assistance is needed to compete with mouse & keyboard, but never bother to get by the contradiction that consoles have aim assistance versus themselves.

Aim assistance is used in today's modern games as a marketing tool to sell more products, not at all trying to be fair. Aim assistance was developed to make people stay engaged more. The majority of people will give up if doing poorly, that's where aim assistance comes in. It's basically false encouragement in hopes that users spend more money.

Apex Legends is one type of game where one shot can determine the outcome of an entire match, aim assistance shouldn't be allowed.

@Popa2caps Apologies these discussion are normally PC vs Console so I assumed thats what your thread was about. Read your post 3 times and I still misunderstood.

If lobbies are strictly console/controller then removing AA wouldn't hurt balance at all. The gameplay of apex would likely just change a bit.

- More emphasis on mid/long range engagements since the loss of AA effects close range fighting the most.

- More players playing on a sensitivity of 3 or lower to maintain accuracy at the cost of moving/turning freely.

- More camping and focus on taking cover.

- Apex becomes even slower paced with players unable to make significant movements and fight at the same time (no more jumping around or flying while trying to fire back)

- Greater difference between skilled and unskilled players.

I'm not saying any of those changes would be bad but I don't see any positive to removing AA other than the last point.

It can be done but Apex will start feeling a lot more like COD to me which is... fine?

@Popa2capsWhat makes even less sense to me is why Console players need 60% aim assist against other console players when players like me on PC who use a controller have 40% against mouse and keyboard players... it doesn’t make any sense why they need 20% more just to aimbot each other

Messing with hitreg is the issue... Sometimes it's just plain not registering, other times you can shoot wherever you want, it hits.... Guess it's based on how much you pay. This is how a free to play game becomes pay to win...

I look at aim assistance in a different way than just helping, but also hurting others that come in direct-contact with the user using said assistance. Aim assistance helps one user, by hurting another The positive outcomes in my mind would be more mouse & keyboard players would enjoy gaming without software determining the match. It could also boost controllers users to feel more confident in their abilities to play matches without the need for aim assistance.

The controller subject is a head scratcher for sure. If someone really needs accessibility, who am I to say they can't game with aim assistance, but then you have people who know ways to abuse said aim assistance that take advantage of it. It's honestly a very tricky subject.

I only guess that some of the developers that created Apex Legends use controllers, and made it like that for personal reasons.

I can't directly explain to you why you're hardstuck, but I can give you a point of view you could be missing.

I don't know how you play Apex Legends directly, but top PC players mostly all have one thing in common, very fast refresh rates with computers built for gaming. I myself wouldn't blame this mouse & keyboard users as most top predators use controllers just fine. I would first look at your gaming hardware first before blaming the mouse & keyboard users.

So if you're coming from a console into PC lobbies, you're already hanicape because of the console, directly. Sure the console could get up to 120hz (if it has that patch, not sure), but then you can't directly change the graphical settings like a PC can, plus then you have to deal with dynamic resolution and so on...

If you're on PC I would try to play with mouse & keyboard yourself and see how hard it really is, It's not like point and click, not at all. A lot of times people say mouse & keyboard users are gods with their aim, but I don't see this 80 - 90% of the time. It takes years of practice in most cases of learning.

Just because someone has access to a mouse & keyboard doesn't mean they're going to be good with it. Just watch the professionals mouse & keyboard players in Apex Legends. Most miss and have to relocate to get the drop on someone unexpectedly.

Nobody is saying that M&K is easy. You can be trash with M&K as you can be trash with a controller. One can be god-tier with M&K and god-tier with a controller.

But it's important to realise the strengths and weaknesses of each input type. The strengths of M&K are the many many buttons and the fact that a mouse is the highest precision input there is. The strengths of controller are the fact that the input is analogue (instead of binary) and that they are portable.

Since Apex is a game where different types of input are matched together, they try to ensure that each input is as valid as any other. One of these options is the Aim Assist to allow them to compete with the high speed and high precission flicks. Furthermore, I have been told that the aim assist is pretty weak compared to other shooters.

Let's also not forget the multitude of other advantages that M&K has, such as: moving in death boxes and tap-strafing. The removal of Aim Assist should also warrent the removal of these M&K only bugs (since technically neither of these were by design, they just never patched them out).

While any debate over whether there is too much / too little Aim Assist is theoretically interesting, EA and Respawn are the only ones with the right data to make any informed decision.
