No heat shields?

Since the removal of the heat shields survival item, I feel like the ring does too much damage and trying to heal while running towards the ring seems useless now!! I noticed this happening a lot to people, like a third of lobby gets wiped out from the ring and feels really empty, like spending 6-8 minutes just running around, only to than die to the ring after finishing a gun battle before we even get in the ring, even when we're like 60 meters away, or even less than that like 1 meter!! Use to be able to run to the ring and heal with no problems at all, now we're dropping like flies just trying to get there. I feel like I'm dying to the ring more then I am getting killed by people!! 20 - 30 games now, and I feel like two thirds of that the ring killed me!! Can we get this fixed? Can't even use a med kit(the smaller health item, not the larger one).

  • Sounds like you are one of those unaware players who can't keep track of ring timing, fight duration, rotation paths.

Removal of heat shields in combination with more aggressive later rings was designed especially if not solely for players like you and partly to prevent intentional campers who just avoided everyone living on the edge / in the zone, healing while other squads fight to secure positive RR mainly in ranked lobbies.

Players like you need to change a mentality of "every game I will win / have advantage". Apex is game of chance, we are not in ALGS or whatever where teams have predetermined known landings and pretty much known preferable rotations. Every game for randoms player like you and me in Apex is basically a random game so you have to accept that:

    • in some games you will be put in the spot where instantly your landing spot will be surrounded by teams and you will have major disadvantage e.g. Estates in Olympus = you can't expect to stay there forever and win multiple fights of 3rd parties, instead you need to rotate out ASAP
    • in some cases you will be able to 3rd party easily e.g. Rift in Olympus = you can choose which fight to take as usually Gardens will be fighting, Power grid / Fight night side, new POI I cba to memorize the name while I don't play the game because of cheaters
    • in some cases you will be looking for a fight if other players run away from you to get engaged in further POI e.g. Overlook sometimes happen that way that teams from surrounding gravitate towards Fragment instantly, other part of the lobby take fights around Staging or Lava Siphon = you will have lower KP game

Pros and streamers who clearly use hacks and radars have set this fake standard that you can do 10+ KP per game easily while if you see average stats per game for other teams or ALGS stats it usually show that:

    1. 10 or so teams = 50% don't get ANY KP per game or for sure less than 4 = at most won 1 fight and lost the next one
    2. TOP 3-5 teams get absolute majority of all KP per game
    3. Average TOP 3 team KP (except hackers, streamers, pros that farm everyone) is / should be <10 = 3 fights + at random some 3rd party picks or solo enemy picks while rotating

Current state of the game is totally fine, balanced especially if you play legit lobbies where wallhackers don't hard gatekeep you / "guess perfectly" your rotations to cut you off again and again. If you die to zone = 90%+ it indicates you have above mentioned skill gaps and should improve. It actually has been always like that even before survival items were invented and smart teams prioritized rotation into or close to end zone (via scanning consoles ASAP) as picking people off as they run into a zone is jut too easy - just this split grinding a battle pass I managed to set up rampart fortress next to ring edge -> people kept coming in and I use Sheila to instantly delete like 3 squads being solo person on Olympus bridge next to estates, actually had time to reload Sheila 3 times until my festivity was interrupted by a 3stack that jumped me when I already was done :) it was unfair yet great plan that I executed and was really happy about = scan ring, predict choke point, rotate there without being involved in other fights = time without action, farm and end up with 8 KP (some squads were not full, one squad I think run away) which made me a kill leader for a split second, not sure if anyone actually beat that.

  • Why are you running toward the ring? Why weren't you already inside it? Why were you allowing anything to distract you from good position?

I already know the answers to these questions, but I'm trying to make sure you've thought about it yourself. There's nothing wrong with being the player who ignores all other factors when choosing to engage. But don't expect that kind of desperation for engagement to lead to victory. More often than not it doesn't. Hence your problem.

Lol I try staying in the ring but other people seem to forget that heat shields were removed, then end up running outside the ring trying to find the other teams that dropped outside of the zone or on the edge, than they get get mad at me that I wasn't following them and leave right away. I read the patch notes sometimes to see what's going in the new season but only after I notice what's missing and what's in the care package rotation, like I checked that out as soon as I noticed the heat shields were gone, after two games when the changes were made. "Public lobbies" not just ranked. Most people just play the game and don't even check the patch notes, I don't use a mic because people a**holes when ever I say something on mic, and trying type in chat is tedious and time consuming.

The hardest thing you'll ever learn from this game is that you are not responsible for the weak and idiotic things that other players do. No matter how hard those players might try to make you feel responsible. You need, at all times, to make good decisions - in my world "good decisions" means playing for the endgame, and not for a kill, even an easy one. No, this won't make you popular with the average player. But use your mic, explain what you're doing, maybe even why, and speak with confidence. And don't go off on other people for doing things you know will get them killed. Be patient. That's all you can do until you start stacking with people you know and trust.

In the mean time, if you keep following dumb people to their doom then it's no longer on them. It's kinda on you. Sorry for the hard truth, but there it is.

Regarding coms - there is option voice to chat -> might be useful for you to look into, though I have not tested it myself, can't comment how well (or probably not so good) it is.
