OG Apex Legends Player Reacts to the New Apex in 2026

I returned to Apex Legends after years away and instantly realized this is not the same game anymore.

I loaded into solo Team Deathmatch and immediately knew I was in trouble.

First thing I see is level 45 even though old Apex had me somewhere in the 300s before all the prestige and reset systems.

I picked Pathfinder because that was the old reliable back in OG Apex. Huge mistake.

There were new legends everywhere, abilities flying all over the map, and red shield domes everywhere. I thought the red dome was some kind of Gibraltar shield upgrade. Nope. Walked straight into it and got melted instantly.

Meanwhile everybody else looked like movement gods bouncing off walls, teleporting around the map, and playing like they were in the ALGS finals.

Meanwhile I was forgetting heal buttons, opening the wrong menus, trying to remember grenade controls, and grappling directly into walls.

Final scoreboard:
1 assist.
0 kills.

Old Apex used to feel simple. Drop hot, loot fast, miss Wingman shots, blame teammates, repeat.

Now I feel like I need patch note research and a college degree just to understand what is happening.

Still one of the best movement shooters ever made though.

But seriously… what happened to Apex Legends?

Actually a good uninstall was the better option. Do not think I’ll be returning. Just like when they ruined COD after 2019

Hello and welcome back. I would suggest you try playing Bot Royale. It’s a relatively new game mode where you play against AI-controlled teams with adjustable difficulty, which makes it a good place to learn (or remember) fundamentals and see what’s new. Also, take a look at the Firing Range – you can use every Legend there, even those you haven’t unlocked, which makes it a good place to try their abilities and see how they look.

Mixtape and Wildcard game modes are indeed designed around non-stop action, but in Trios you can have a lot of slow moments, especially if you land away from other teams.

It's true, the game is different from what it was several years ago, but hopefully you’ll overcome this unfamiliarity bump quickly enough and find many things to enjoy, both old and new.

  • They ruined matchmaking (you're constantly playing with the same people), they ruined balance (it's all about movement, nothing else).

That's it in a nutshell. This is what the game has been like for the past year and a half.

Well, this is their new Apex Legends.

Day after day, whether it's morning, afternoon, or evening, I'm constantly in a lobby as if only 100-200 people were playing Apex. I'm constantly being crushed by 3stacks and masters/preds. I know most of these people from previous days, weeks and months because I play with them every day.
