Agreed.  My K:D went from about 3 last season (and every other season), to 1.5 this season.  Game is ridiculous right now.

I really don't know what to say anymore. 

Just today I played against people that had: 33,000 kills, 11,000 kills, 20,000 kills... In public matchmaking!

How me and my Noob-Team(tm) can ever compete with that. Mind You that very often I am matched with people that do not understand pings and when I ping better armor they just ignore it and run around with white armor! It's impossible to go against such good players that have put hundreds of hours into the game. 

It's like putting a bully into the kindergarten and call it "fun" or "engaging".

This is just an example of one of many such lobbies. Usually most of the times there is at least one 11k player in it that clears at least 8-12 players. "FUN".

@Solim66  / @PsyhiX69 to be fair - you can't expect to win every game or even have a fighting chance.

BR and such lobbies should be approached from a bit more humble perspective. Either:

a) ok I will give it my best shot, let's see how I compare vs such players - to be honest the number of games means nothing so do those old season Predator badges, no one decent enough now is not scared of oldtimers who used to be good or got the badge when there were 3000+ preds.

b) evaluate the situation that ok there is a crazy squad in the lobby = so all fights you take should be in 3rd party format, even those crazy ppl do lose 3rd party fights more often than not.

c) try to play more passive, disengage if you start seeing that someone is just frying you, let other squads - potentialy as good as this in the screenshot - take out one another.

Otherwise you are saying that these squads are bullies at the same time you want to be that bully and win every lobby yourself = kinda not fair 🙂

Say they actually made it be "skill base matchmaking", all the smurphs and cheaters would just throw off the calculations and it be the same thing regardless. Besides, as mention, they rather have streamers be in lobbies where they can dunk on everyone.

I remember back in like season 8, Rouge got put into my match, and he killed like half the lobby as an octane. I went "wait, is that really him?", went to Twitch, watching him indeed play that match, while complaining about cheaters and Hideouts. Every single player he came across had virtually no skill and my "skill", (if you can even call it that), was off that day too.

So yeah, their "Skill Base Matchmaking" is only meant to cater to streamers. Everyone else pretty much have to deal with it. Pretty sure you'll get the same lobbies even on a new account.

Edited: To further show how unbalanced it is, you don't even see player's rank in Arenas. I've clicked on people's icons after the match to look at their profiles, and while I was Plat III in Arenas Ranked, these people were Bronze to Gold players. Didn't realize the "skill gap" between bronze and plat were the same, even bronze and pred.

No no no, you are missing the point

SBMM is supposedly a tool to match you with SIMILAR skilled players. If that's not happening then there is something wrong with it. 

As things stand now, and looking at the proof others have posted on here, it's obvious that some people are put into lobbies where the skill gap is too big. And in which they simply do not belong. 

That would be like placing a level 100 player against a level 5 player. The new player has no chance to win the encounter. 

Games are unbalanced skill wise.

And no one is expecting to win every game, but a fair chance to compete would be nice. According to the reasoning behind your statement it's OK to just be a free kill to far better players but not ok to be dissatisfied because it happens all too often. It shouldn't happen at all actually if sbmm worked correctly.

Is there any info on matchmaking or you are just assuming that there are 2 different ones - one for public one for ranked?

I personally see that in the ranked system works exactly the same (as described above) plus takes into account the fact of whether you have a set squad, not sure about the public as I never play it much especially not with a set squad.

As for your complaint about it and how you see the system not working correctly - what would be then your ideal outcome of the SBMM? Putting you in the lobby you always win? If not how can you determine how high chance of winning it you had and where you actually messed up? e.g. there is a guy who kills you and he has 100k games but how do you know how good he actually is or what team he had - maybe he played with 2 players level 1?

In my opinion, there are just two extremes here:

a. you get into a lobby with 99,999% similarly skilled players = for you it means each fight is really 50/50, so your chance of winning the lobby is actually fairly low - put the numbers in the probability of multiple events formula to have an actual number.
just to start the ball rolling your chances go something like this 50% to win the first fight, then you have to multiply that with 50% of winning the second fight, that's already 0.5*0.5=25%, if take the next fight it is already 0.25*0.5= ~13% of a chance winning 3 in a row which is already fairly low probably vs your expectations, in reality. when people take like 4-5 fights to win the game MAX possible win rate drops to like 5% or lower!!!! and then you add the fact that in current lobbies there is a skill difference and as soon as that comes to play your chances diminish to what people usually see in their win rate <5% unless you are like pred stomping pubs. e.g. fights being not 50/50 but say 40/60 => 0.4*0.4 = 16% winning two fights in a row, ~5% to win three, sub 5% to win four.

b. you get unequal lobby where this probability is fairly high or granted favoring you - then the question is why would other players now be discriminated so that you have a fairly high chance of winning = they are lower level?!

Sound like you want a system that tailors you and your winning percentage 🙂

Finally, I think you haven't played many FPS games with the public type of game available. Before BR games it was called FFA = free for all, where people just came with numerous incentives but usually not to play with 100% effort, that was more like an exception than a norm. Same I see in Apex when I ask people to use coms or follow mine and get replies like "this is just pubs" "why you take this game so serious" "stop trying too hard" etc. Despite the fact that you get into a game with a team of 3, I still view public more like 1 vs 59 which most of the time is the reality you are facing. The ideal outcome of the public game for most people is not a win, rather them owning the lobby, getting 1000 rewards, 100 badges, 10000000 damage, completing 1000000 challenges etc.

If you make pubs work like you ask it would be exactly the mode of ranked and people will just not play it the same as most don't play ranked now because they don't care, don't bother to try hard etc. etc.

Not even a trace of Feedback from Respawn. Not even a...Yeah, live with it 🙂

Long story short - will not rewrite it now, cba.

1. Demotion - only change you have after season demotion is that for a while lower level players suffer because now all Diamond+ players are in Gold 2/Plat and still can play every rank (season 9 change). Yet the fact that now you are getting matched with very mixed teams e.g. one team can have a Gold 2 (ex diamond), Silver 2, Bronze 4 does not mean that SBMM does not work, it is just a period of randomness where higher skilled players will have an easy time and rank up very fast, I saw some of my friends who were high Diamond reaching high Plat/Diamond within 2-4 days.

2. What is your perfect case scenario then? Putting you into lobbies which you can win say 50% of a time or higher aka discriminating other people or actually use current system where probably average win percentage is between 3-5% because applying basic math gives you exactly that result:
if we assume that every fight you take is 50/50 -> winning first fight 50% chance, winning two in a row 50%*50%=25%, winning 3 in a row = 13%, 4 = <5%, 5 = <3%. Make your conclusions of how many fights you take or not take and add to that skill difference (that some squads will be higher skilled) and you get your win percentage = SBMM works just fine.

3. Not sure why there even should be SBMM in pubs as most play them as free for all, I even have had comments when IGLing like "stop trying so hard, its pubs" "chill out dude, we don't need IGL" "have fun" etc. Public always has been a place where people just come for crazy stuff and most of the time they would be happy to see not a win (secondary) but the fact that they completed 10 challenges, got 5 badges, 1 apex pack, 5 new skins, dealt 100000 damage, got 30 kills, were kill leader etc. etc. A few care about winning really there and ones who do usually win.

4. Not sure there are actually 2 different systems of SBMM, matches I am getting are pretty consistent and trust me they are not very motivating, I rather want to quit this game than keep playing which I do when games are just crazy hard, sometimes play <10 ranked games a day.

Matchmaking is a steaming pile of hot garbage, specially in RANKED Arenas. Teammates are always below level 100, mainly below level 70, and enemy team is usally level 100+ with premade teams (as given by club names), sometimes the enemy teams have low levels, but those are usually just cheaters and smurphs.

It's nearly impossible to play any mode, due to the terrible matchmaking, and rampant unchecked cheating/smurphing.

You mentioned you're a new player? Keep going bro, sbmm will catch up to you eventually. It worked fine for me for a while too, not anymore.

Some people are being hit harder than others. If the MM was equal to all who play the game don't you think we would see more or less the same win % across the board, all things considered? 

You see pro players and some others dominate lobbies with between 15-30 kills per match easily. What does that tell you?

You think squads in Apex comp just steam roll each other like that? Never. They can't because they could kill each other just as easily. 

What we are seeing is that some players are simply being given to certain lobbies as free kills / wins.

That's not equal. The system is rigged and Respawn has been exposed for it, go look it up.

@Sand_spitterI am new to Apex, but I am not new at all to FPS games.

That argument that someone is hit harder is purely subjective and not worth discussing. If you want to measure how good or bad something is performing you need data and objective criteria for measuring e.g. win percentage, number of higher/lower/same rank people in the lobby, number of lobbies with higher-ranked players vs total lobbies you entered, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't see people gathering that data, they rather complain that SBMM is not fair, and Respawn in turn does not comment at all... So we need to make our own surveys like one player here in forums did by playing 30 games and posting outcomes or just stop talking about who feels what and why.

As for the kills - in my opinion, that is the biggest f up thing with this community = people think that kills equals skill, yet if we look at it a bit more and ask ourselves the following questions:

• how are kills awarded in Apex? does the fact that I did 1 damage and knocked the enemy who got then killed be someone else make me more skilled because I will get the kill in such case, been there done that, so far my most efficient game was <800 damage with 6 kills. in my opinion, no, it is more luck than skill or I did benefit the team's progress towards the win but the fact that I got the kill means nothing, teammates/other enemy team could have done the majority of the work for me
  
• are support players rewarded in this game - no not really, you can push enemy into bad position, shoot at them for multiple minutes, do all the works so that someone can just laser them from the back or just tap the last shot, and unless that happens within 5 seconds? time interval you get NOTHING for it. Here I would say a system like in hockey where all people on the ice get +1 or -1 when goal is scored/lost would be more fitting. E.g. yesterday I had a game where I had 600 damage and 0 KP, other teammate had ~300-400 damage and I guess 1 assist, finally the 3rd member of our team had 6 kills, was the kill leader and mainly because of the help from our side and other 3rd party teams = was lucky (most of the success here) and skilled enough to collect not only kills from our fights while enemies were healing but also steal them from other team's effort. Soon enough he messed up major from a tactical perspective and when I pointed it out to him, he immediately pulled out the argument "hey dude how many kills you have?!" like it would make my obviously correct feedback about his tactical mistake any less correct.
• do kills help in this game to win - yes. can you win without kills - yes. So are kills = high win rate? Not necessarily. E.g. I had a game where we were in ~15th place and a Predator guy was in my team. He had 7 kills by that time and kept pushing everyone. It was a Public game. Eventually, he rushed into 1 vs multiple, got killed, we could not take his banner and because we did follow him (hoping for the best, supporting the team) we were surrounded and aped by two teams 2 vs at least 4 people, lost it. So I beg to question that this Predator guy did any good to us with all his kills?! Most in this community would say seeing stats "damn you s#@%, you are bots, you did nothing", and we finished in 10th place. 7 kills and 10th place - hurray, congrats!

How I approach ranked in this game:

1. I go into the game with the goal in mind to not mess up tactically (coms, rotations, decisions when to push or run away from the fight, take the hight before fighting, agree on whom we focus fire as a team, what is our escape route etc.) and do my best mechanically (aiming)
2. My goal after point 1 is the win - I want to be the best in the lobby even if I have 0 kills and enemies fail to rotate and escape the ring / prowlers, it still makes me the winner and winners get praised not judged as they say. Plus I get 100 RP basically for free
3. I am ready to get punished for my mistakes, thus I record all my games and review them given during the battle it always feels like you did all correct and team f-up, enemies hacked. It is true sometimes, but sometimes it is a valuable lesson that well no I f-up
4. My expectations of winning the game are set according to the level I am playing - if I go into public game, I e.g. expect to have a good chance like 5+% maybe even 10%+ of winning, dealing 1000+ damage, have at least 3 KP. If I go into Gold lobbies, my expectations are lower yet I still think that I can do it. When I get into lobbies where I see recent Master and Predator trails - I don't set myself for failure at the same time I do not expect to win that game, I am not pushing most of the fights, mainly focusing on 3rd partying and am not very sad if I do my best and get shot - it is like competing vs much better athlete = even if you set your PR you still might/will lose because your PR result will be sub average for the athlete and until you reach that level you will lose 100% or close to that of the cases

@quantum400ideal another thing I would like to mention - from my experience already in Platinum lobbies now I keep hearing that the big part of the success in ranked is not to play with randoms - solo q as it is called here - instead at least get people with mic from the discord that will at least communicate, not abandon team already during the jump phase. So to say discord community is still random but not as bad random as you will get most of the time when solo q.

This leads to my next point - people complain that there are too many premade squads in their lobbies and most of the time those are Master/Predator/high Diamond players.

Given the above said I guess it is clear that that kind of makes sense - the player is smart enough to play with a set team, is lucky enough to have one, and repeatedly sticks with the plan that clearly provides the expected results, thus they are in the ranks you see them.

You can also see that from player streams - they hardly ever solo q, they almost always have a set squad or at least very good players to invite to their party if they are missing one or two players from the usual lineup.

And if say 50% of Master/Pred players do that they still have to be put in some lobbies, ok one, two servers might be filled with such squads only, which seems to be the case when you spectate pro players and their streams, yet there will be a few squads always left waiting... so the question here is either they now have to wait for 20+ min to get into the game or they are just put in the next best server even if they will be the best team there. I guess and it is fair enough to them that the latter happens and we see those squads in lower-ranked lobbies.

You can camp the whole match and 3rd party the last team with semi decent loot, doesn't make you a good player. I'd rather feel like I earned that win by doing enough damage and getting some kills. By actually playing. Being able to compete and participate and not feel outclassed in 9/10 matches. That's the fun win OR lose. Not one sided matches that are being tilted in some people's favor. 

There is little reward in this game by winning, I guess people just get addicted to the adrenaline of it all. It's a revolving door tbh. 

Seeing pred trails on jump and not expecting to win is fine. I don't either. The problem is that when this happens over and over again. It gets old. 

Kills alone doesn't mean you are good, but usually that's the case.

We as players shouldn't have to gather anything in terms of data, we should be playing and enjoying the game. We shouldn't even be having this discussion. 

People complain because they love the game and want to keep playing it and still have fun and not just walk away. They miss how things were in the beginning. 

I don't really know why you would stand up for this idea of sbmm, but seeing that you haven't been around long enough and haven't invested so many hours, money etc only to be screwed over later on I'm not surprised. There are small time streamers that had to abandon their accounts as they simply became unplayable. Many others had to do the same. This is why smurfing became a thing in this game to begin with. Do you not understand why the system was designed this way? Money. If you are ok with a game manipulating you to play more and spend more then that's fine. If the Matrix is your home so be it. 🙂 to be fair, most online games do this, but with this game it wasn't always this aggressive.

I used to be excited about everything they did - new skins, ltm's, maps, characters, guns etc, but what use is any of that to me now if the experience is no longer fun like 80% of the time. 

You can Google the sbmm thing. The keywords are pretty obvious. It's on YouTube, can't miss it. I think jmiles did a vid about it too and it was all over Reddit as well. 

SBMM is and always has been a joke.  That's what ranked play is for.  Pubs should just be a free-for-all of randomly filled lobbies.

This season is particularly terrible for SBMM.  Typically I get to Diamond every season then stop ranked play, but have grinded to Master in a previous season (not fun to do).  This season, 9/10 of my pub matches are against 3 stack pred/master teams.  May as well be playing ranked, why even have the distinction between the two?  My win rate, which has averaged 20% since the game launched, is down to 12% this season.

Between that and dying behind closed doors or around wall cover, this season is the most frustrating for pub play.

You wanna play like that go right ahead. Don't come posting here when you reach a kdr of 0.5 because of it though.

I didnt change anything. The game USED TO BE FUN. MM IS SCREWING US. 

Your're right, having fun is not what it's supposed to do. It's suppose to retain players by making them lose on purpose and throwing them into bot lobbies every now and again.

Can you understand this concept? It's not about math, or player qty or anything else. It's to keep you addicted by turning you into a try hard throwing you a bone every now and again  to keep you from leaving.

Please, no one is asking to win every fight. Why is this so hard to understand for you? No one even said that.  And if you honestly think becoming pred is gonna make it easier on you than keep playing and see, the game would only become harder as a result - keeping you at your 5% or below. So what incentive is there even to become better? A badge? You'll just be screwed by MM anyway. Ask around. Read the forums more. Some of the top streamers and players have a dkr of between 1-2.
