Apex economy needs more balancing than weapons and legends.

Title says it all...

Something about the in game economy of Apex seems off. In fairness, I'm sure I'm not EA and Respawns favorite type of customer, as I don't like spending real world money on simple things like cosmetics. That being said, I have spent about $30 USD on this game so far. Generally if a game has DLC, or is a f2p game I enjoy and want to support, I typically set myself a $60-$75 hard cap on what I will spend on the game. Past that, and I would rather find new games. Seeing posts on here and other places when people have a bunch of legendary skins and such always leaves me wondering just HOW much the average person puts in. For those of you who like the skins and have played since launch, what have you spent this last year on this one game? $200? $500? It seems like that's the only route to get heirlooms and such. I digress.

What really concerns me though,  is the legend tokens. They feel useless. Apex could drop 6 new legends tomorrow and I would not hesitate to unlock all of them due to the metric butt ton of legend tokens I've stacked up. At the same time, I've been saving up my crafting metals for a solid 3 weeks now, and am still about 200 shy of unlocking a good skin (Something I've only done once before). Given that I'm about halfway through my personal limit for spending real world dollars, this makes me wonder what Apex will feel like once I do encounter that line, and refuse to spend more.

Holiday events are even worse. It could coat you $140 USD to unlock Pathfinders heirloom.

WHAT? I've seen games come out with collectors editions with signed concept art, dlc, and a physical art piece or model for less that these digital boxing gloves cost. Even normally in the shop, a standard 1800 coin skin is going to set you back $20. $20 for one skin is insane.

Without ranting too much about microtransactions, the main point of this post is that we need a way to convert our legend tokens to either crafting metals or apex coins. Failing that, we at least need to add a legend token payment option in the shop (for base skins, not recolors). Seeing as the only thing to do with legend tokens is unlocking characters and buying legendary recolors it feels like legend tokens aren't really rewards, they're bait to try and get you in the shop, because if you can spend them on recolors, then maybe you'll buy the coins for the base skin.

I know big games are big business, but following the commitment to Titanfall2 that respawn made (to provide content free, and eventually do paid cosmetics in the form of prime titans, which were much more reasonably priced) the economy of Apex just reeks of EA greed and neesa to be addressed.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

  • Honestly speaking, you've just wasted your time typing this.

Don't get me wrong i agree with every point you've made, but nothing is going to change.

The business model is working and they're making an obscene amount of profit from it. From a business perspective it would be insane to not capitalize on the current system.

The only time we'll probably see price reductions is when the majority of spenders put their foot down and say no more, we've spent enough on this game.

So likely never, since every time the older spenders leave, 3 new ones pop up to take their place...

    @MandatoryIDtag I understand completely.

But I don't think I wasted my time. I don't expect big businesses to stop making money. But it does seem like their approach alienates a lot of the "middle ground" players financially. The f2p players can reap the benefits of the new pack level progression system (which is incredible btw.) And the whales can shell out for whatever they want. But there is a center line value proposition missing here.

Take the battle pass for example. $10 and you can level it up completely, saving all your coin rewards along the way. By the time your done, you'll have enough for the next battle pass, but can only afford half a skin from the shop with the same coins?

Like I said, it's not a profit proposition, it's a balancing one. I also don't understand why you can use crafting metals to unlock whatever you want, but not apex coins. Would they not make more by allowing players to pick their purchase, instead of relying on an extremely small rotating shop?

As it stands now, each of the in game currencies serve a very specific purpose with no overlap. From my point of view it just devalues all of them.

@blkarmphoenix  with regards to the legend tokens i do agree, there have been some real in depth ideas pop up in the past regarding better ways to use these, but alas all we've seen in terms of legend token usage is rerolls for the BP dailies.

I get that they want a clear difference between the 2 currencies but they could at least pull their finger out of their collective butt and make legend tokens more desirable.

    Definitely not ^^^

Apex made it's record earnings the month it launched, it saw sharp decline the next two months since, after a small bump with the iron crown event, it declined further.

@Wingmannedbro  enough people are currently still buying content for the model to be viable that's why.

Part of the fact that sales are dropping is the standard loot ticks also. Now if like me you're a whale, you basically  have every legendary skin etc in game,  resulting in loot ticks that pumping out white/blue crafting metals like no tomorrow.

There is literally no point buying them due to the heirloom events, so apex are likely only seeing any real profit on these events, and will likely keep it as their focus until they run out of legends to make heirlooms for.

After that they're basically gonna be screwed. XD
