A little about myself for reference. I think I'm a bad player; skill wise I'm probably at the skill level of an average lvl 180 (current lvl is like 240; doesn't tell you much but you can guess how much I've played). I think my K/D ratio for this season is 0.76, where on a decent team my damage would average about 380 and 1 or 2 kills, and my matches are normally 5th or 3rd place.
Now, with this in mind, I'd say to be a good player, you need to at least be able to do what I do:
- Clear a place quickly and cleanly; if you've beaten everyone at mirage voyage, don't just immediately run because the first ring rang, pick up the spoils within 30 seconds or less and then run, unless you think you've been fighting there for too long and you think you'll be third partied. Also pick up things as you run (I usually never stop to pick something up unless I keep missing it, I'm constantly running and picking up)
- Don't just leave your teammates behind; ping where you are going and if you notice a straggler ping a couple of times because they might not even notice that the team has moved on
- Ping all attachments (including white), strong weapons, gear, consumables at early phase, then only blue and above during mid phase of the game
- Ping what gear you need
- Ping if you see an enemy, don't just shoot at them because your teammates might not know what/where you are shooting at
- Ping where you are landing
- Don't just leave because you were downed first, if your team is competent enough, they can pick you up. Usually a bad team is wiped out within the first 10 seconds upon first downed ally. (Can't tell you how annoyed I am by how many times I've picked up a banner after eliminating a squad and the person just quits. Then we get second place at the end and an extra teammate would've helped).
- Don't get angry cause you die first by charging in and blaming your teammates; if your team is sniping the enemies at a good vantage point, provide covering fire, it might not hit anything, but it'll prevent people from charging at your team when they need to heal or reload. Or just watch the periphery or sides so your team doesn't get third partied.
- If you want your entire team to charge in, ping it or say move in; don't complain after the fact because it'll be too late by then (never understood this behavior). There's pings for attacking a location, and a literal mic to give directions, use it....seriously
- Don't heal at the same time as your teammates if you are under attack. Alternate between shooting and aiming, provide covering fire for your healing teammates and then move in for the kill if necessary.
- Use the survey beacon, it's like 3/4 of pathfinders don't remember that they have this ability.
- if you lose, don't make a big deal about it by being toxic, just move on to the next game; it's teaching bad behavior and ruins the community. You can just as easily vent by muting your mic or screaming like a lunatic in your own house at 6 in the morning.
