Mythic weapon skins
I would like to provide feedback regarding Mythic weapon skins in Apex Legends.
First, I want to say that Mythic skins are some of the highest-quality cosmetics in the game. They’re visually impressive, have unique animations, and require a significant investment to obtain. Many players spend close to $200 or more to unlock a single Mythic cosmetic through Apex Packs or other collection methods. Because of that, these items are marketed and perceived as premium, exclusive rewards.
My concern is that when a player carrying a Mythic weapon is eliminated, anyone—including complete strangers on the enemy team—can immediately pick up that weapon and enjoy all of the premium visual effects and animations without ever owning the skin.
I understand the idea behind letting players experience these cosmetics, and I think it’s a fun feature when you’re playing with friends or teammates. Sharing premium cosmetics with your squad can create memorable moments and encourage other players to purchase them. However, allowing enemy players who just eliminated you to use the exact same premium cosmetic feels different.
From a customer perspective, this reduces the sense of exclusivity that comes with purchasing a high-end cosmetic. Part of the appeal of a Mythic item is that it represents a personal investment and achievement. When anyone who defeats you can instantly use it for free during the rest of the match, it can make that investment feel less special.
A few possible alternatives could be:
- Allow teammates and pre-made squad members to use Mythic weapon skins when they pick up your weapon.
- Give owners the option in the settings to disable skin sharing with enemy players.
- Restrict Mythic weapon effects so only the owner and their teammates can use the full cosmetic experience, while enemies see the default weapon appearance after picking it up.
This approach would preserve the social aspect of sharing cosmetics with friends while maintaining the premium value and exclusivity that many players expect after spending a substantial amount of money.
This isn’t about preventing other players from enjoying cosmetics entirely. It’s about giving paying customers more control over premium content they purchased and preserving the value of some of the rarest items in the game.
Thank you for continuing to improve Apex Legends and for considering feedback from players who support the game through cosmetic purchases.
