Re: Reminiscing the OG days of Apex

@dSKyNafinchin Muscle memory still reaches for the buttons before actually pressing the paddles lol, I'm expecting a few weeks to break old habits.

@Gabrielmojo26 It definitely took a little while, for me. Once you get past that, I'm sure you'll love it! Shoot, I've been using Elite controllers for a few years now, and I still find myself swapping weapons with the Y button sometimes.

Your comment about unbinding melee from the right stick, makes me want to try taking my Y button off the paddle and using that as my melee instead, since I use it the least of the four paddles with my current layout. Not sure why I didn't think to do this before now. Good call!

@dSKyNafinchin I have a heavy grip, especially in CQC scenarios, and would always accidently punch mid gun fight. I would mod my controllers permanently by removing that stick click inside the controller lol, no need for that now, which is great!

When looking up online, I was unable to find any info as to unassigning actions to the stick clicks, I would have bought one sooner if I had known this was possible.

You guys are talking paddles (plural) yet I'm currently only using one LMAO, baby steps!

For those looking for a better hand layout on non paddle controllers, I highly recommend using extesyy’s hand positioning, it’s a bit of an adjustment, but it makes it so you can have your hands on all the buttons all the time, instead of classic hand positioning. Using the different positioning can really help, I would highly recommend it, also you might want to watch one of his videos on yt or Ttv to get a better understanding if it.

@BigMacAttack8u I see lots doing it but why would I do that when I can just put button where my fingers naturally go.

@hayhor Also, seeing the fingers like that just makes my carpal tunnel scream...
  • Season 4 was great, Season 5 pretty good.  I think it's when Horizon showed up that things started going downhill, but Olympus was great so it was hard to tell. People used to hate Olympus, I remember that, and initial Horizon was broke until she got nerfed.

Seer sucked.  I think that was the end, but it took Valkyrie, who was OP for so long, to really lock in.  Again, hard to tell because she's fun to play, but she was super OP.  It wasn't just that, though, it was that Respawn simply started ignoring all the damage they were doing by adding scan meta and vertical meta.  You don't add Seer, and Valkyrie, and Ash, without buffing certain defense characters.  It's really terrible, imo, because I believe there were things that could have been done to keep it going.

Storm Point is, and was hated.  I still like that map.  But it shows me, too, what people were asking to see...basically a really small level where people could Octane, and Path and Valkyrie their way to twitch fun. Nobody likes using strategy, it seems, or map movement, or picking fights.  A 'good' game is one where you don't really think at all, just hold down the forward move and fire button :P.

I'm not super worried, the Ranked thing was the straw that did it.  I've relegated Apex to not worth being that serious about, and I will have my fun regardless of how much pro input keeps trying to ruin it.  Stopped watching streaming videos, and other things to improve play, I'm now just messing around.

It used to be pretty great, though, I agree.  I remember when I looked forward to what was coming next.

Thing is, that's what finally got me to play a season regular. Valk seems OP because she is the ONLY character that acts even 50% like a Titanfall2 Pilot in movement.

@Gabrielmojo26   Woah, that's dedication! I don't think I've ever actually taken an Xbox controller apart. I definitely dismantled several PS2 controllers back in the day, via violent methods, Lmao!

Baby steps are how it's done. When I first got mine, I pretty much only used one paddle for my jumping. Then I started getting into the habit of crouching and doing slide jumps with them, and then reloading. Now, I hardly touch the face buttons, but I've been on an Elite controller since the dropped Series 1. It also really helped me to force myself to use the paddles for all menu actions as well, like @hayhor mentioned, so the muscle memory locked in faster.

Have you messed with the interchangeable toggle sticks? I ended up going with a shorter domed one for my left stick, and a taller concave one for my right stick. I have been thinking about trying other ones for my right stick again though, because my aim has felt off. Maybe I need to bump down to a shorter one again

@Kyldenar  That definitely makes sense. I'm about to be a kill stealer for a wee bit XD

@BigMacAttack8u  I tried playing claw grip back in the Halo 3 days, but it hurts my hands. I don't see how people play like that! My gf plays claw, and I've had friends over the years that do, but I never could. I used the bumper jumper layout back then

@dSKyNafinchin I briefly did, and went with what I thought were the Xbox series X default sticks, only to notice I had the bigger diameter ones on, not sure I like those, thinking they're the older OG sticks. Been messing around with the response curve presets, aggressive, instant, default, haven't found a sweet spot yet, this is getting just as complicated as ALS settings LMAO, but I enjoy messing around with this kinda stuff.

@hayhor I had recommended it for the people that didn’t have paddles, and didn’t want to fork some over just to hit all the buttons. If you have paddles already I would recommend against this, as then you wouldn’t be using the paddles you bought 🤣
