A Collection of Apex Crashing Workarounds From an AMD GPU User
I see a lot of people are still crashing, and while I've resolved the crashing for myself, it's still just as frustrating to play IN games with people that crash half way through.
Here's a bunch of fixes that either together or separately have worked for me.
1. FPS_MAX XX, this is a property you can set in the game to limit the number of frames per second your game can hit. For me this appears to have been the main fix - Go to Origin, My game library, right click on Apex - Game Properties - Advanced and add FPS_MAX and replace the XX with numbers. I would start with 100, and lower it in decrements of 10 and see if the game continues to crash.
For me, I am currently at FPS_MAX 69. I would say this is a little annoying as I can handle far more frames, and I have 144HZ monitor, but for now, I can play the game.
2. Compatibility mode, For Apex and Origin, you can right click on the shortcuts go to properties, Compatibility, and at the bottom you have checkboxes to disable full screen optimization and to Run as Administrator
You can also check the box at the top to "run this program in compatibility mode for..." and choose Windows 7, or try different operating systems.
3. Disabling / Uninstalling Discord and other chat programs
4. Disable all in-game Origin settings. Go into Origin, find the settings option and there's a number of different in-game Overlay options which you can disable
5. Play the game itself in either Windowed or Borderless window mode.
6. Windows 10 users - disable "game mode" In the start menu search for game mode settings and you should get the settings and a simple on/off switch to disable.
Game mode is Windows 10 optimization for games, claiming to be able to squeeze out some extra frames for you. If you notice any performance issues with other games, consider turning this back on, but in reality, the increased performance you experience is actually very little, if anything at all.
7. Windows 10 users - disable "game bar", again in the start menu, search for game bar settings and disable via the on/off switch
It's just another overlay to turn off.
8. Ensure all your graphics are set to low, I have all mine at the lowest except model detail which is high, FOV is set to max and my texture streaming budget is the highest my card can handle which is 4GB.
Out of all the fixes, for me personally I think it was the FPS_MAX that did it, from what I understand it's not really a fix as such but just a workaround to stop the game making your system unstable by putting too much strain on the computer. I will turn off the FPS_MAX every time a big update comes out to see how the game runs, but I tested last night after the Octane patch and still crashed within a couple games.
