Can't link accounts

Okay where do I begin? Several years ago I bought a switch late which unfortunately stop functioning shortly after getting it. Before that happened, however, I downloaded Apex Legends on it and synced my Xbox account with my switch account. I had completely forgot about that today when I tried to sync accounts with this new one. For whatever extremely annoying and tedious reason, it won't let me connect my accounts now. Please help if possible.
