Linking New PC account to old Xbox account

I’m trying to link my new PC account to my old XBOX account so I don’t loose progress or the money I put in.   I unlinked the old account but now I can’t link the new one.  Keeps saying something went wrong.

  • Heya,

Before going forward, I want to explain this first to clear any confusion:

All in-game progress (Such as Skins, Level, etc) are stored on the EA Account

Platform accounts (Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch) can be linked to said EA Account, and get access to that progress and progress further. Account Progress is NOT stored on these platform accounts.

Once you unlink a Platform Account from an EA Account, it will lose access to said progress. And you will not be able to access that progress on that platform unless you were to re-link that platform account.

Now in your case you mention you had:

    • Your new account (PC)
    • Your old account (Xbox)

And you said you unlinked your old account, which I'm assuming is Xbox in this case.
Is there a reason to why you are unlinking your Xbox account? As you mentioned your new Account is PC (Which is either Steam, or via the EA App, which can already be used without linking any platform accounts)

    Also keep this in mind:

When you link accounts, it creates a lifetime link to protect you from malicious activity and help prevent performance issues in your games.

You can unlink your platform accounts from your EA Account if you want to link them to a different EA Account, as long as that EA Account has never had the same account type linked to it before in its lifetime.

That means if you unlink an Xbox gamertag from your EA Account, you can’t link a different Xbox gamertag to it in the future.
Once you unlink a platform account from your EA Account and link it to a new one, you can’t unlink it again for six months.

In your case, if you are actually unlinking your old Xbox account and trying to link a new Xbox account, that it would not be possible. (As you already had a previous Xbox account linked to it) In that case it would explain why you are getting an error message.

If however that's not the case, and you should be able to link a new account, maybe try logging out and back in your EA Account and trying to link it again. If it persists, maybe try a different browser and clear cookies, or on a different day as there might be some server issues related to account management.
