Random high packet loss only on Apex Ranked servers

This issue is causing me so much confusion, so I've decided to post here as a last resort.

Essentially, it is what the title suggests: Every so often, when I load into a ranked game in Apex, I'll have very high packet loss (upwards of 50% on average, I would say) throughout that whole game. I'll load into the next few, and it will be perfectly fine... until it isn't. The issue doesn't happen in pubs (as far as I know) and doesn't happen in other games.

Additionally, the issue has only happened on my home internet, so at first I thought my network was the issue. For context, I know this because I transport my setup to and from another location, and the issue does not happen at the second location. This morning, I set up a mesh network in an attempt to fix the issue, but the problem persists (mesh network using eero 7 dual-band routers). I use an Ethernet connection and have good, stable internet speeds (tested: 500+ Mbps download, 400+ Mbps upload).

The attachment is a short clip from a game (I promise I would've hit the bow shots without loss) representing what I see. It's also worth mentioning that this clip is directly after restarting my game. Restarting my game or my PC does not fix the issue for whatever server that game is being played on.

So, with all that being said, is this a network issue? Is this a server issue? Firewall config issue? Genuinely, this is the most confusing problem I've run into since I've had my PC. Any suggestions would be appreciated, since there's apparently also no way to contact a real person at EA.

    EA_Claus obligatory update:

After switching to Google's DNS (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4) and adding port forwarding (rather than using DNZ) towards my PC, I started a session with 3 games fine back to back to back, and then a game where I loaded in and subsequently had 60% packet loss for the entire duration of the match (~15 minutes... survived to 7th place). I am currently the only person using the network, so it shouldn't be an issue of the network being overloaded. This also wouldn't make sense given the fact that 3 games went smoothly, and the 4th was riddled with packet loss.

I'll check in with Xfinity, but this is just an update to say that the other suggestions for possible causes or solutions either aren't the case or didn't work.

    Hi EA_Claus ,

Thanks for the response. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

As I said in the original post, I have already reconfigured the network that is causing the problems from a Modem/Router combo to what is now a meshed network. That being said, Ethernet cables have been swapped, and I am using the mesh router rather than the Modem router.

In regards to your other suggestions, I'll first try to use the open Google DNS server, and if that fails, attempt to set up a DNZ with a static IP.

All that being said, I do see other posts on the forum reporting a similar problem to mine, many of which report using Xfinity as their ISP, which is also my ISP. If all of this fails, I would suggest it might be a communication error between EA/Respawn servers and Xfinity as a service, which would be more effective to solve as a problem as a whole, rather than on a case-by-case basis.

Regardless, thanks again for the response, and I'll update soon with any successes or failures.

    Hey GKMedic,

Packet loss is normally an indication of a problem with the connection, and since you could also isolate the problem to your home network by bringing your setup to a second location, I'd recommend you check your home network's configuration more in-depth and make changes there.

To start, for instance, you could try using a different Ethernet cable and different ports on the PC/Modem; sometimes that helps.

If you have another modem/router to try, it might help you further isolate whether the problem stems from the hardware rather than the network.

Have you already tried changing the DNS to Google's or OpenDNS for a few hours to check if that helps?

Maybe there are just too many other devices connected to your home network while you play that are causing interference?

It could also be something on the ISP's side that you can't fix by yourself.

I don't have direct visibility into your network, so I can't help you pinpoint the problem exactly; however, you could reach out to your ISP to see if they can address the packet loss specifically. I can tell you that setting up a DMZ or a Static IP helped other players in the past.

I hope these suggestions help you figure this out. Let us know how it goes!

Since EA_Mako and EA_Claus have been active recently this morning, I'd like to address them directly, even if not to solve my issue directly, to ask how I can get in contact with an EA advisor since the options on the EA Help site only direct to self-service links that serve no use to help with this issue.

The "common" solution other people have found of capping FPS at 100 also does nothing in my case.
