it was never possible to play Apex without having it linked to an EA account. If you can't remember having linked the account before, it might be a good idea to contact EA Support to hopefully find that EA account. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do to help you with this issue here in the forum - in order to play with your PSN account, you will first need to find the correct EA account and link it to that again. Support is the only one who can check account information and can therefore hopefully help you with finding that account.

I Just had a friend log-in to PSN to access my old account but now it seems like my XBOX account is the main and not my old PSN account ☹️

It also did not ask for the option to choose between XBOX and PSN account.

anyway to change this?

once again, if you have relinked your PSN account to a different EA account (so your current EA account), then you've lost your PSN progress. You will have to relink it to the original EA account to try and regain that progress.
