Re: Black Screen Apex

Hey @JerryTheTileman

Looking at the DxDiag you attached I noticed that dwm.exe has been crashing quite a bit. This is the Desktop Window Manager that's built into Windows. Basically it controls how windows are displayed on your PC, and if it's crashing that may account for the black screens you've been getting.

I've seen some cases in the past where new graphics drivers can cause the DWM to crash, so I am curious if that might be what's happening in this case as well. Have you tried rolling back to any older NVIDIA drivers to test and see if that makes a difference at all?

  • Hey Kent, no I have not tried to roll back to older nvidia drivers. Do you have any recommended?

    Thanks, Fin

    @JerryTheTileman

Some people have said that drivers from last December have helped with performance issues in Apex Legends. I saw several mentions of driver 457.51 specifically, so that may be a good one to test.

I have done a clean install on the 457.51 and tried to play Apex, but it still crashed on the first game. So I dont think its the graphics card driver.

(my pc even crashed/restarted while replying to you)

    Hey @JerryTheTileman

I appreciate you giving it a shot. Have you been keeping an eye on your PC temperatures recently? You aren't seeing anything out of the ordinary there?

    /Kent

  • Hey @EA_Kent

My Temps seem to be fine, both are at around 45C when just watching youtube or doing other stuff on the pc, and then when playing games its usually less than 60C.

Edit: So I have updated my bios and uninstalled and reinstalled Apex. It crashed my pc again on the first try, however, an error popped up. I dont exactly remember what the error was but its was something like "dxgi device hung". And then my pc automatically turned off and restarted again.

Thanks for giving it a shot. What happens if you start up your PC in a Clean Boot? If there's something else running on the PC that could be causing these errors that might help to get around it.

For more information on how to set one up check out the EA Help website. Once you've had the chance to give it a shot please let me know. Thanks!

  • Key @EA_Kent

So I have tried the Clean Boot, and the only things I opened was File Explorer,  Discord, Steam and Apex but sadly the pc still crashed the first time trying to load Apex. I have also stopped hardware acceleration on discord but still not working. I tried to do a full reset of my pc, but my pc said it was unable to do it (tried installing windows or whatever from both the cloud and the hard drive.

Hmm, that's definitely concerning. If you aren't even able to reinstall Windows there might be a more serious issue happening. I think it would be best to reach out to Microsoft Support to see if they have any recommendations.
