So I’m now permanently banned on Apex and EA games.

So I want to lay it all out on the table for anybody who is reading this, I know nobody can help me on this form, but I would like opinions. I am going to provide all of the information that I have provided in both of my ban appeals to EA and I want real take on the situation from someone other than the service team from EA because the first denied ban appeal seemed like an auto generated response who didn’t even take the time to read my statement. And I really don’t understand how after reading my statement that  this was the correct action for EA to take. little back story before I say everything, I have been playing apex since day 1, I have 3500 hours, and 10 heirlooms. I have had my my account hacked and banned and returned back to me. I’ve made mistakes maybe once a year or every other year through the past 4 years that were small chat infractions that had bans ranging anywhere from 24 hours to 1 week. And I deserved and learned from those moments but this permanent ban just feels so wrong. Now into all the information I provided EA.

Cause for the permanent ban: text chat “actual autism”

Backstory : ( This is what I told EA and I don’t think it was even read.)

And I know how this story must sound but it’s true.

Ban appeal #1(denied),

Hi my name is Thomas, the owner of the account. I am reaching out today because as I was playing apex during my spring break my account was disabled and when I looked into my email as of why I noticed instantly why and that this whole ban is a complete misunderstanding and shouldn’t warrant a permanent ban. Over the past 6 months I have been going to nursing school and while I am at home studying I have been hanging out with my nephew Christopher, Christopher has been diagnosed with autism and also is my neighbor, when my nephew has been coming over he has been playing games on my Xbox. One day I was explaining apex legends to him and let him try out apex on my account while I was studying. When I looked into the text chat that the ban was decided over the message reads “actual autism. I know with everything in my heart that my nephew was trying to explain to his teammates that my nephew really was diagnosed with autism. My nephew is not exactly literate when texting so I understand how this message must come off when reading it. I have talked to my nephew about this and explained that I will have to set up his own account for him to try apex on after this happened and to not use the text chat feature on the game. But regarding my ban on this account, as a nurse that has a long love for Apex and EA I would never make fun of somebody with a disability! So with all this in mind I really hope you will re visit my ban and un ban me! As this was a complete misunderstanding and I hope to be able to play apex long into its future and to continue supporting it by buying its heirlooms. And if autism is a word that triggers auto bans on the text chat feature I think the word shouldn’t allowed to be sent over chat in game just incase, for those who are disabled and may not be able to cognitively make the connection on why that word can mean something bad when they’re told growing up that the shouldn’t be ashamed of anything !”

Ban appeal #2( status - open)

this is the message I sent the second time because I feel like they didn’t read anything from the first appeal

Hi, can I at least get told by whoever reviews this appeal that you read my entire message? I feel like the last representative did not read my message or understand the scope of the situation, yes this account in question did type the message “actual autism”, but I tried providing evidence that I’m am I trained medical professional who would never make fun of someone’s metal status and was going to lay out the entire scenario for that day. I proceeded to discuss my disabled nephew who has been coming over from next door to play video games. That day was no different and in that moment all he wanted to say was  “ I actually have Autism” it’s his way of handling toxic team mates. When he gets toxic teammates and they yell at him he usually goes “I have autism what’s your excuse?”. In consideration to this ban and his scenario that I have explained, how does a permanent ban fit this case? If this entire ban is over a grammar error. Then I really don’t understand the need for a permanent ban from the game especially when grammar Is differentially impaired in the subgroups of the Autism Spectrum Disorder. This means to me just because my nephew typed his message wrong and said “actual autism” instead of “I actually have autism” on my account then it deserves a permanent ban? That seems like quite the over reaction. Even if this account has had a ban history in the past those bans were all for small infractions, years apart, that served a learning experience on what’s appropriate to EA and what’s inappropriate, since those bans none of those infractions happened since. But with this ban how is a permanent ban suppose to be a learning experience for me or my nephew? I now have to explain to him that the game he liked running around on his uncles account is no longer able to be played because he tried talking about his disorder? How is that fair to me or him? This is why I think a permanent ban is over reactive of EA and a warning would have be justified. It’s not like he was trying to make fun of a group of people, he was actually trying to talk about himself but made a grammar error. Even if EA decided on a month ban that action would have been more acceptable and explainable to my disabled nephew than a permanent ban is.

In EA’s agreement it states to not  “ Harass, threaten, bully, embarrass, spam or do anything else to another player or any EA employee or representative that is unwanted, such as repeatedly sending unwanted messages or making personal attacks or statements about race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated. We won't tolerate any unwanted conduct against any EA employee and representative because of their affiliation with EA in EA Services or anywhere else.”

My nephew wasn’t trying to target anyone other than himself so I don’t see how this falls under “hate speech” deserving a permanent ban and why this cannot just warrant a warning with a temporary ban. If anything I feel like this rule and action taken against my account is boarder line discrimination against my disabled nephew just for trying to talk about his handicap, after all he is told he shouldn’t be ashamed to bring it up. With this ban it’s almost like EA states “you’re not allowed to call yourself autistic” but what if he actually on the spectrum? Now it feels like we’re the ones being discriminated against just for talking about his condition.. I am going to attach my medical ID once again as proof and also photos of this description because when I click on review case I am not able to see what I have typed to EA and I at least know EA received this letter if I sent it as a photo as well. The only thing I can think to send past this point to collaborate with my story is a photo of me and my nephew on my account. If that’s what EA needs I’ll send that proof too. But I would really like not to lose my apex account and a community that I’ve been a part of for four years now. Thank you for your time. Sincerely Thomas (Clutchyy HD)”

”I also vow if this accounts permanent ban gets changed to any amount of a timed ban, whether it be weeks, months or a year, no one will ever be aloud to play on this account again other than me. And the in game communication system will never be used again to stop any further infractions against the account.”

That is everything I provided to EA during both interactions. I would love to hear some opinions, thanks.

  • Hey @clutchyyhd,

I do see you mentioned you're aware that no one on the forums can make any changes to the account here.

That is certainly the case, so while I understand you'd want to have some other people weigh in on the matter, I'm afraid this is not an issue that can be addressed or changed on the forums.

Any further discussion of this would need to be sent up through our Terms of Service team via an appeal. If they've already completed multiple appeals and declined to remove the ban, I'm afraid that would be final and not something we're able to change either, as you noted.

I would definitely make sure you are the only one with access to your account via these security steps as necessary, as we don't allow accounts to be shared in part to help prevent situations like this one.

As this is not something we're able to address, speak to further, or provide any additional details or information regarding, I'll be locking the thread down here.
