The 3.2 Update class system rework, while likely not a popular opinion, a complete disaster and unnecessary mistake.
Approximately ~14 months after the launch of the game, to completely derail the efforts of the player-base by, not only reworking the utility and capability of all the specialists, but to combine the disarray with a remap of controls and functions that folks have learned and been using to develop their skills on the battlefield,… pretty much a player population death sentence.
The game that was showcased by Free-to-Play weekends, resulting in people purchasing the game for what it was, as demonstrated by FTP, as launched and advertised,… no longer the same game. Bait and switch may seem harsh, but it is not an inaccurate description.
The Specialists we’re already identified in their respective class roles, if people weren’t playing them the way the devs intended, a hard reset is not the answer. Flat-out stripping away accessibility to certain gear and gadgets based on categorical class fit is not the key. Besides I’m guessing a lot of people choose the Specialist character based on appearance and Specialist Gear over whether they fit in a particular Squad Role slot. Let’s be realistic. There are just waaay too many Casper’s out there on the field not to believe that he isn’t being played for his ghille suit. And half of them never deploy his Recon Drone, so, well yeah.
If I have to relearn my controller config, as opposed to custom configuring it (but I still can’t decouple weapon change from weapon accessory change (hold),…the way it used to be,…mind you I’m on console,…
…well I might as well learn to play a different game all together.
I’m not a die-hard. I’m not a sweat twitcher. Of all the things that likely needed attention and change in the game, Class Restriction and new controller default layout really shouldn’t have been in the mix after a year. Better luck getting it right at launch next time around (Battlefield VI maybe something in 2027).
Finally, to add insult to injury, I can’t even connect to a match for this error or that error’s reason. Server stability has never been an issue before so I guess that is why it was never a priority over a class restriction rework.
Hazard Zone, arguably the best addition to game modes, isn’t even available as a Portal option and was hard enough to scrape together enough players before. Now it is all but deceased. Unless you are sitting in your 12-man chat group with everyone set up in 4-man pre-mades plotting who is extracting when and where with what. Just abusive for the pick-up gamer. So, I guess maybe that’s a good thing,… can’t get into a game anyway, so that makes for “an improved experience” for the solo player looking for a PUG. Prevents you from getting stressed out by the kill squads if you can’t play at all.
I recognize that my opinions are very highly likely a minutia minority and the sweats and fan boys will rush to defend the changes.
I’m not writing this for those people. I’m writing this as an expression of my disappointment under the premise that by some sheer accident someone from EA might read it, and deities forbid, potentially take it to heart.
Over and out.
